OT - NO POLITICS Spring has sprung

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
I bought a dash cam last year for my car, which I like. BUT, it came with a suction cup mount which is for the birds because it falls off constantly if the temp outside is over 60 degrees. You read all the hacks online on how to get it to stick... they don't work.

Finally caved and bought an adhesive mount for it, to be delivered tomorrow. I don't know why they don't include that with the camera to begin with. I hate suction cups.

Still have to get my friend to install the rear camera, too.
Dash and rear cameras are a must now-a-days! Glad you got one!

At our local Universities, they have maps to alert students where their nests are. They are very aggressive when nesting.

I was in a parking lot and there was a flock of them strolling across the laneway, backing up the traffic. Someone honked their horn and the geese went crazy, honking and pecking at each other, it was a brawl. It took so long for them to move so the traffic could move. Never honk at a goose.
I read on the internet once that the "honk" made by a car is a curse word in Goose. That explains it.

When that happened, the thought went through my mind because they started attacking each other, as if to say "What did you say? What did you say?" Maybe it really does sound like an insolent goose.

I cannot stand Gmail's new Gemini AI feature and I can't disable it at work. The damn thing wanted to summarize my damn emails. Sorry, I am capable of reading it myself Google. Not exactly how I want to sign on.

I can't stand AI in general. I find it makes people, especially teens and tweens lazy as hell, especially when writing any sort of communication. I'm probably the only one who feels this way but I don't give a rat's ass. I've attended enough webinars and read a number of articles and have yet to have anyone sway me in the other direction.

I'm all for things evolving but I will never be on board with AI.

It's all bad. They are trying to roll it out in doctors offices around here. Basically AI will listen to your conversations with nurses and doctors, parse out the junk, and create visit notes and summaries. I can't wait to reject that consent form when it's pushed across the desk.

Same here. I'm all for dictation software and yes on occasion I use Siri to have my phone call someone or ask for a sports score but that's it. I don't need my conversations transcribed and if I do, you better have a subpoena first. Gemini isn't subtle either. I see a grey box with a star directly under the title of the email that says "summarize this email." I can't wait for IT to roll this feature back.

Children are the single greatest thing for keeping things in perspective.
My autistic son is the greatest think that could have ever happened for me and the Missus. He doesn't give a sh-- about anything that is happening in the world. Just wants to know what is on his calendar today, tomorrow and the next day. And watch Disney movies in his free time. He is incapable of discriminating against any thing or anyone. When I walk next door to his in-law apartment, sit next to him on the couch and he puts his arm around me as we just hang out, life stands still.

What I especially don't like about AI is when I'm writing an email it attempts to complete my sentences for me. I make a point of changing the sentence myself just to f*** with it.

I 100% agree it makes people lazy and it is also further dumbing people down too. I'm all for efficiency & other benefits of technology but AI is a step too far for me. About the only thing I like about AI is when it is used to draw animals.
