It was alot of garbage out there. The whole first was turnovers and inability to complete a pass. Couple of those goals came after we had chances to clear the zone and were just weak on the puck.

Just going to let this one go.

Well that wasn't good but it's only 1 game and I expected Toronto to come out flying after being shutout last night.

I will say I really don't care for the boos from some of the crowd when the team came in 2-0. We win Saturday and Monday and the team won 4 out of 5. Relax a little people.
The fans have seen this team be a shit show for over a decade minus a fluke in 2017-18 and 2022-23. This was literally the type of play we saw all last year. A hyped up new and
improved team looking like last years trash? Come on.

Fairly simple solution to your problem is to simply not watch

Fairly annoying when everyone is trying to discuss the game and ur in the corner throwing a temper tantrum every 2.3 seconds

Sure it’s baseless comparisons to the effort level trailing lol. I mean the coach even called them soft.

No one is writing the season off. I didn’t like the effort in the third you did. We can disagree it’s not being an outrage take.

I will add that’s a long list of excuses

First game back from Europe (5 days ago)
Quality opposition (will have a lot of them this year)
Team coming in off a loss (will see that a lot too)
Yeah a few players were soft in this game, the coach is calling it out so what? The fact that the coach is calling it out already shows you this isn’t last year’s debacle.

I don’t give a shit about random fans thinking the team wasn’t good at nebulous shit like “effort”. Most fans think that anytime the team doesn’t look good it’s because they didn’t put enough effort, as if every loss is simply a matter of not having the will. They were working, they just weren’t executing. Every team in the league has games like this.

That’s not a long list of excuses. It’s three elements and it’s quite a common recipe for teams losing. You can look it up…sportsbooks even adjust their odds for that stuff.

Still think it’s humorous that now that we’ve gotten what you were clamoring so much for in an average goalie, you suddenly have an eye for everything going on with the skaters.

Yes I know, I've been in the building the entire time, I'm not thrilled either but booing this situation isn't the same as Lindy's team was. This team came in winning 2 of 2 to start the season. They are going to have games like this.

Believe me, we go on a long losing streak and I will absolutely be booing. I'm just not jumping the gun and I would have rather seen the crowd rally behind the power play tonight but a lot of fans sat on their hands like they were scared shit less because we were losing in the 3rd game of the season to a really good team.

So then you and the coach agree with me some (I think more) players were soft tonight and they were soft last year as well. I’m glad the coach is ripping them which is why I’m not worried about the season just making observations. Yeah and the devils got good goaltending tonight the lack of effort did them in. If that was shit goaltending like last year it’s probably 6-1 loss because they would’ve mailed it in way earlier. Goaltending again is good so far. Effort not so much. Glad I could help bud.

I can simultaneously be doing shit, lounging around all while also shit talking about an underachieving mentally weak hockey team.
Oh so you’re just miserable by default no matter what, got it.

I always call this team as I see it, including long term trends across seasons. There’s plenty of objective evidence that indicates this year’s team is not likely to be like other previous crappy years. You’re choosing to pretend everything is exactly the same three games into a season that so far hasn’t even started that bad. I’d call that unhinged and irrational.

It was less boong and more groanings.... Not a flat out massive boo but I kind of love it that fans already jumpy. They care a lot. The end didn't get a lot of moaning. Fans accepted it and moved on. Thought it wasn't a bad fan response. A lot of initial joy then disappointment. What else could be expected here with a 3 spot to Toronto early on, after some dubious play by a few people and vitek level goals allowed.

Frustrating game for a home opener but it's game 3 and we still 2 and 1.

The main guy that I'm worried about is Jack. Mainly because i know he can be so much better and so much more positively impactful. When he has an off night it is noticable. Kinda like the old Kovy (ilya) comparisons, the puck is always on his stick and you will notice it when he really screws up. I am worried about the trend in Jacks game since he phased out last season. Same sort of pattern. More worried in long long term vs. short term. I expect and hope Jack's game to mature from 3 seasons ago.

We all know what to expect from Palat, haula and to a degree Stefan. The first line wasn't great either.

I agree with some of your points but definitely not the goaltending one.

Ok that was not a good goaltending effort.

When you are sitting in your seat and it feels like bad version of Vitek is still in net, no that is not good goaltending. I sat half the game when the puck was near our net thinking that it was going in. That dreaded feeling you are never safe back there. I'm pretty sure markstorm is gonna be a pissed off man after that game. He should be better and probably will be. That's not the Mark he wanted to leave on reg season home opener. Pun semi-intended.

We lived it last season and don't want to see it again this season.

I’m not liking what I’m seeing from him. He made a really cocky entitled chirp from the penalty box last year and his play since then has been…idk the word…lazy? He looks sulky out there to me. Like a kid who’s not getting his way. He’s still producing but his overall play is immature in my observation.

Is it just that, immaturity? Is it that he’s just off mentally from his shoulder injuries? Is it just an extended temporary slump?

I don’t know, but so far I don’t like it. You compare it to a guy like Bratt, who even when he’s not “on” you never get a bad sense of his vibe. Jack is giving off bad vibes.

I shouldn't have shit talked Berube yesterday, I agree with the broadcast and, at least on eye test, thought the Leafs were very solid defensively.

They were solid defensively under Keefe too.

People are hyping up Berube like he’s Bowman incarnate or some shit. These are still the Leafs, I fully expect them to flame out when it matters until proven otherwise.

You are literally typing a lot of what I've been mulling over the last 3 games. I keep telling my buddy at work the same thing. Jack is my concern and it's kinda what you wrote out (and I wrote out). His game reminds me of his first two seasons right now. No where near the dominance he had in spurts of 22-23 and that spurt early last year and for a bit of the 21-22 where he dominated for a stretch of unbelievable play. He isn't controlling the game, but just reactive to it, and my biggest complaint is him making bad force passes to guys who are no where near open.

Maybe it's frustration, maybe it's immaturity, maybe it's just rust.

He is still also avoiding a lot of contact (although today he dished a little out at one point when it was coming towards him), could be still recovery hesitation. Hoping we see positive trends in his game over the next 2 or 3 games.

Jack was injured last season. Sure he's started a bit off, but it's 3 games into the season. It just looks like he has no confidence right now and overthinking his game to start the season. Once he gets in his groove he'll be fine.
