Could the Shaw, Rogers merger lead to Ron Maclean leaving Hockey night in Canada and other changes at Rogers Sportsnet?

Obviously take this with a grain of salt but this guy has broken a lot of Canadian media stories over the years and it makes sense. How are feeling about this. Feels like it's time? 62 years old with 36 years there.

To me, he & Don were absolute cornerstones of growing up in Canada. While I will admit that he's starting to get stale lately, I won't forget about all the great years that came before. Was never the same once Don was let go.

A lot of people find him boring, but there was a controversy about 20 years ago he demanded more money and CBC fired him, Cherry refused to do coachs corner until he was brought back and paid more. 15 years later, Cherry is fired, and Maclean does nothing and apologizes for Don's behavior. A pretty good argument can be made that he was nothing without Don Cherry so it rubbed people the wrong way, and the fact he only made it 2.5 years without him kinda indicates how he was without Cherry. But I mean he's also 62 and been there almost 40 years, it's time

But things aren't the same over at HNiC. It's a shell of its former self. It's a complete disaster, and I don't see it getting any better.

If I'm MacLean, I'm happy to be riding off into the sunset before the ship completely sinks. As a fan, thoughts of Strombo, Marek, Duthie or whoever else like them to replace MacLean make me want to bring up in my mouth.

McLean is a fine story teller. Not as good at moderating but in all seriousness the panel isn’t great most of the time. Like asking JB or the Fox guy to help out if the analysts are boring. Ernie Johnson of TNT works with the basketball trio as those guys are interesting.

I really agree with you here. Ron has been a staple in my life since I can remember and I'll miss him.

The way Sportsnet has gone the past few years it doesn't really matter who else they are going to put there. The overall production is just absolute shit. They've cheaped out far too much
