Is it possible that this logo is a leftover from some secondary logo work (like for hats, etc.) the team had done when they moved to Brooklyn? And the NY on the stick was more prominent at that time?

I know I'm reaching, but this thing is just so odd....

I'd say it's very unlikely since the aesthetic doesn't really fit what they were trying to do in Brooklyn.

It does remind me of the Kamloops Blazers though.

I don't see NY spelled out in the stick tape? Very confusing. I'd probably not dislike it if that wasn't explained to me as some clever way to get NYI in the logo.
