Poor as these highlights are for Bouchard, it must be said that we have an interesting question on our hands. During last season, the Oilers were a win away from the Stanley Cup. Yet, all their defensemen save for Ekholm are terrible at almost everything. Their forwards are one dimensional and have next to no defensive acumen. Their goalie is among the worst in the league pretty much always. It seems that we have been deceived. The Oilers did not in fact come this far, because they weren't good enough. I am starting to suspect they didn't even make the playoffs last year. "Discuss".

Lots of teams make the SCF one year and flame out the next. But nice effort.
As for discuss? They have a generational player and an elite sidekick who can overcome a lot of deficiencies in the lineup. Can they drag them deep into the playoffs by both having yet another historic post season with an even worse supporting cast?
Discuss.

Did you not see McDavid literally put up numbers only Gretzky has?

He’s really talented.

I just don’t get him shutting off his effort level. How do you get so far with that mentality?
He just needs to go back to what he was doing last year cause that worked a ton for him. Whatever this shit hes doing so far this year aint it.

Then again, the whole team looked really lost even though they were outshooting the Habs by quite a bit at one point but once that first goal went in they looked helpless. The PP's last night, they were standing around doing f*** all. Last year Bouchard was in "shoot first ask questions later" mode. This year when someone drops it back to him. He seems to hesitate too much.

If hes really asking for 10 million Bowman should just show him clips of all his screwups this season and say "10 million huh? thats cool, here's 6"

It's called playing against Ottawa. Nobody's impressed when people do well against them. It's like saying McDavid dominated Denmark in the 2015 world juniors quarter finals to lead Canada to a 8-0 win.
No one was impressed when Bouch did it in the playoffs for 4 rounds, let's be real, it's not about Ottawa.

Because he's just a glorified Marc Andre Bergeron. WIthout McDavid/Leon setting him up for points or getting easy secondary assists on their unreal plays, he'd be on par with MAB offensive-wise. PP specialist with a bomb of a shot, but 0 defensive capabilities.

Bouchard had a rough start last year as well. I am 100% confident that he will get back to his dominant self in short order, if he’s not there already.

At his best he is an offensive force who is at least adequate in his own end. But for some reason he seems to always start the season slow.

Come on man, there’s a clear difference between him in the playoffs last year and anything MAB ever did. That second lowlight is one of the worst efforts I’ve seen at the nhl level, but overall he’s improved his defensive game. He’s usually a solid #3-6 dman even if you don’t factor in the offense, from what I’ve seen.

That second one is still hilarious though. “Ohhh I goofed, shit shit to the bench! Quickly now!”

Couple bad highlights in a bad game.

He and Ekholm continue to form one of the best top pairs in the league. Bonus is he shows up when it matters unlike a guy like Quinn Hughes who can't handle playoff hockey.

These Oiler fans that think he is as good as Quinn Hughes. If Hughes got to play with Ekholm and most of his 5 on 5 minutes with McDavid he would score 100 points a season and be better defensively. Bouchard has been weak defensively all season. He wasn't even very good defensively in tonight's game, but his mistakes never ended up in the back of the net and he produced offense, so that's a good game for Bouchard.
