We have been rebuilding, we just signed vets this season. We still have 3 1sts on top of about ten recent firsts from the past couple years.
Yeah its kind of odd, this is a team of Vets and we haven't spent any real draft capital to get them. We aren't in a normal situation like most teams when they get old and expensive, we actually still have a stocked farm system and more picks. I mean a top 5 pick would actually do us some good tbh.

The main trouble is Brunette refuses to play his younger players, and if they do get into the lineup they get limited minutes. Meanwhile we've had games where Stamkos has more ice time than even Forsberg.

I mean outside of the top line we haven't had a consistent line even from one period to the next, let alone one game to the next.

Brunette came into camp with his lineup already set, did nothing in camp to see if anything else would work better, and now is in panic mode because he had no plan B.

He benches Fabbro while leaving Schenn, Lauzon, and Carrier on the ice who have played worse. Parssinen was sent to Milwaukee to be able to play center this season but the only ice time he has seen is about 5 minutes in 1 game as a 4th line winger. Tomasino played pretty well the first two games and then got benched while Brunette put Cole Smith on the 2nd line.

There is zero chemistry because Brunette won't leave things alone.

It was a straight up mistake by Trotz to go for it with the roster he started with. Even with the big adds performing well, Nashville would’ve been hard pressed to top any of Dallas, Colorado, or Winnipeg.

Nashville should recover and compete for the playoffs, but it’ll be 6-8 at best. They are a deeply flawed squad and will be stuck in the mushy middle for years as a result of their free agency push.

TBH whether he went for it or not we would have been stuck in the mushy middle. We just had too much talent left on the roster combined with the young guys to get too bad. Honestly we are probably a worse team because he signed those guys than if he hadn't. Brunette would have actually needed to give the kids a chance to play and most of them are better than the guys they are getting benched for.

Trotz's decision making since taking over as GM suspect for sure.

On the one hand, they have 3 legitimately great core pieces in Forsberg, Josi (both of whom are 34 but show no signs of slowing down )and Saros. Most GMs likely wouldn't accept tearing it down given those pieces give you a good base to build on.

On the other hand...that roster is lowkey ass outside of those guys. Guys like Tommy Novak and Mark Jankowski aren't getting top 6 minutes on a good team and guys like Colton Sissons should be on the 4th line. Since Trotz came in he made the roster older;

- Signed ROR to a deal (admittedly has been great)

- Gave Stamkos, a guy who many argued was cooked given how bad he was 5v5 and needed a lethal Lightning power play to produce 4 years in his mid 30s, is currently not beating said allegations given he has 1 point in 5 games playing in the Preds top 6

- Signed Jonathan Marchessault to a deal. Has been one of the better Preds players but is for some reason playing on the third line.

- Giving Saros an 8 year deal when you had an S+ tier prospect in the system, pissing him off leading to his exit.

Trotz got duped by what was in all honesty, a bad team last year getting hot at the perfect time to sneak into the playoffs.

Exactly! Signing several old guys to retirement contracts, whose hearts are still back in their previous cities, isn’t winning. That’s how teams implode.
Funny you mention that because one of said guys has already started to talk about his displeasure with the new situation; Keep in mind this was before they lost to the Wings earlier today

Probably not a good sign when the veteran coming from a winning organization is making these comments.

They're an old team with several newly signed big name free agents . This is going to take time to gel . How long ? Dunno but could be weeks or even months.

And doesn't Brunette have some problems too?

Forsberg is not 34

Novak has not been in the top 6 since the first game. Jankowski hasn't either.

Skjei $7x7? I haven't followed the Preds close but is that good?

I feel like they are really hoping some of they guys who had monster seasons last year weren't just outliers. But I have a hard time believing guys like Nyquist and O'Reilly are going to be near 70 points agin this year. I don't know how good that defense is going to be after the top pair.

They look like a team competing for a wild card spot.

Skjei has been up or down, but that's mostly because they have him babysitting Schenn. He needs to be on the top two pairings ahead of Lauzon and Carrier, if Brunette can't figure that out he needs to be canned.

O'Reilly hasn't been the problem, but Nyqvist needs to be swapped with marchessault, Evangalista or Tomasino the later two before they ask for a trade or get Tolvanened.
