I remember when the first one was headed for disaster because Sonic's eyes were too far apart. Now, only 4 years later, it's a successful franchise with a 3rd movie coming out. It pays to bow to the never-wrong internet mob.

Didn't they change sonic because of the internet mob?

Indeed, not surprising as the first 2 did well and actually were not bad flics for what they are. Not future award winning ones but fun movies for a family to see. I've seen both while bringing my nephews.

The second movie had some really bad scenes but was still solid for the most part, especially if you played and understood the games. That said, I would say a lot of that success was because of having Jim Carrey in a lead role who absolutely destroyed it as Robotnik. Hopefully, we see Metal Sonic in this one, he's a legendary character in the franchise, but I guess we'll be seeing Shadow.

Who would've thought we'd be getting a 3rd movie after the initial backlash on the design.
One of the rare instances where the internet helped save a franchise rather than sink it
I was thinking about that earlier. It's a great example of a studio listening to the fans and being rewarded for it. That's what seems rare these days. Studios routinely sink their franchises by ignoring the fans and then blaming them when they don't watch. I wish that Paramount would learn from this and listen to Star Trek fans next, and Disney to Star Wars fans, but I'm not holding my breath.

Coincidentally during my trip to Hollywood last week they had the Sonic 3 red carpet premiere

Didn't actually see the movie although I did see a line for general admission so I'm sure I could have had I not been tired after a day of walking

Took my 7 and 9 year old nephews this weekend and they loved it and stay for mid credit scene as it looks like a 4th one will be made.
Here's the thing though like 4 people stayed in my theater during the credits everyone else left

I mean in Sonic 1 they basically announced tails in the credits and this time they announced
Pink Sonic

This movie was a mess. Absolutely horrible dialogue, some of the worst I have seen in a movie in a very long time. I get that it's marketed towards kids, but it really felt like a 2nd-grader made some of the lines. The story was very unappealing as well. I get that Shadow is more of an anti-hero instead of a true villain, but his story wasn't very compelling enough for me to care about it. Yeah, the random girl he liked tragically died in an explosion. That's like every sci-fi story.

Jim Carey still brings his A-game though, damn he was a beaut. He plays Dr. Eggman supremely well once again and honestly carries this movie a lot. The first one is still my favourite, the second had the best final scene with the Emerald Crystals, but this movie was stuck in all the Hollywood cliche mud. There were no wildcards taken, and no interesting developments, just wanted to make a very safe movie to do well in the box office. And now they're trying to grasp my interest with Amy and Metal Sonic in a fourth instalment. Yes, damnit I will watch it lol.
