I think these stats speak for themselves as to why we arent scoring and winning like we had thought we would. I got these stats from NHL.COM Today.

Shooter Miss %- our guys are taking alot of shots. they just arent hitting the net. I'm not 100% sure if a shot counts as a 'missed shot' if it has been blocked by the other team, but regardless, we need to get more shots through.

D-MAN SHOOTER MISS % (65/191= 34% MISS)
Defenseman Total Shots Taken/Shots Missed/Shots Saved/Shots Scored
70% Fistric 10/7/3/0
66.6% Peckham 3/2/1/0
53.8% Smid 13/7/6/0
38.4% Potter 13/5/8/0
33.3% N.Schultz 21/7/14/0
30.8% J.Schultz 68/21/42/5
29.1% Petry 48/14/32/2
13.3% Whitney 15/2/12/1
FORWARD SHOOTER MISS % (148/618= 24% MISS)
Forward Total Shots Taken/Shots Missed/Shots Saved/Shots Scored
44.0% Hartikainen 25/11/13/1
42.8% Petrell 14/6/7/1
35.2% Nuge 71/25/45/1
33.3% Yakupov 51/17/28/6
25.8% Eberle 89/23/60/6
25.0% Lander 4/1/3/0
21.7% Smyth 46/10/34/2
21.4% Jones 14/3/11/0
20.0% Eager 15/3/11/1
19.3% Hall 83/16/63/4
18.3% Gags 71/13/51/1
18.1% Hemsky 55/10/37/8
15.6% Paajarvi 32/5/24/3
12.5% VV 8/1/7/0
10.7% Belanger 28/3/25/0
08.3% Horcs 12/1/10/1

Player Giveaways to Takeaways Per GAME. As you can see we don't have very many players who accell at take-aways. The majority of our guys giveaway the puck. But there are some surprises. As you can see, Yak, Smytty, Fistric, and The Schultz's, are the worst offenders.

Defensemen (-)GiveAways/(+)TakeAway PER GAME
-0.1 Petry
-0.3 Smid
-0.3 Peckham
-0.4 Whitney
-0.4 Potter
-0.5 J.Schultz
-0.5 Fistric
-0.6 N.Schultz
Forwards (-)GiveAways/(+)TakeAway PER GAME
+0.3 Belanger
+0.3 Hartikainen
+0.2 Nuge
+0.2 Gagner
+0.1 Eager
EVEN Eberle
EVEN Lander
EVEN Jones
EVEN Paajarvi
-0.1 VV
-0.1 Hall
-0.1 Petrell
-0.2 Horcs
-0.2 Hemsky
-0.5 Smyth
-0.5 Yakupov

HITS per Game. I'd like to see each player with at least one hit per game. We've got 4 D-men who can really hit, and only two forwards sadly. Hemsky is the worst offender here.

Defensemen Hits PER GAME
4.0 Fistric
3.2 Smid
2.6 Peckham
2.4 Petry
1.2 N.Schultz
1.1 Potter
0.6 Whitney
0.3 J.Schultz
Forwards Hits PER GAME
3.3 Eager
2.8 Jones
1.2 Petrell
1.2 VandeVelde
1.1 Hartikainen
1.0 Smyth
0.9 Nuge
0.8 Lander
0.7 Hall
0.7 Belanger
0.7 Gagner
0.7 Horcoff
0.7 Yakupov
0.5 Paajarvi
0.4 Eberle
0.1 Hemsky

Blocked Shots per Game-I'd Really Like to see our guys with the most ice-time blocking more shots.

Defensemen BLOCKED SHOTS PER GAME
2.7 SMID
2.3 N.Schultz
2.1 Fistric
1.7 Petry
1.7 Peckham
1.6 Whitney
1.2 Potter
0.7 J.Schultz
Forwards BLOCKED SHOTS PER GAME
1.0 Petrell
1.0 Jones
0.8 Nuge
0.7 Belanger
0.6 Paajarvi
0.6 Horcoff
0.5 Gagner
0.5 Smyth
0.5 Eager
0.4 Hall
0.3 Yak
0.3 Hemsky
0.3 VV
0.3 Eberle
0.1 Hartikainen
0.0 Lander

Add all these things up and our guys with the most ice-time arent really blocking shots, or hitting as much as is necessary to be successful defensively as well as missing too many shots offensively. Overall our team needs to maintain possession of the puck better and have more take-aways than giveaways as well.

If we can get more shots through, not give away the puck as much, hit a bit more and block more shots im sure things will turn around. These things need to be addressed by whoevers on the ice, not only specific role-players but by everyone.

Defensemen AVG. Total ice-Time per Game
J.Schultz 22:41
petry 21:30
Smid 19:26
N.Schultz 19:08
Whitney 18:03

Fistric 15:51
Potter 15:37
Forwards AVG. Total ice-Time per Game

When it comes to special teams' stats, the important ones are the following: how many penalties you draw per game and how many penalties you take per game.

NYI is 2nd.
They must also be special!
Same with the Sharks! 1 win in their last 20 games or something.

Well... Oilers are first in the NHL in special teams:

Lol we should just play the entire game short handed. We have a lot of good statistics that people refuse to look at. Giveaways and takeaways are pretty useless. The guys that make the plays tend to cough off the puck more while defence first players that can't produce offensively can do well in the takeaway category. Not very helpful IMO.

We are also middle of the pack for 5 on 5 goals against. When you factor in the special teams with average defensive play at even strength it clearly tells us something. We aren't scoring at even strength. In fact, we are sitting 25th for goals for while being 5 on 5.
