Rangers Are Now Tied 28th in GF

Rangers and San Jose vying for that 28th spot currently.

http://espn.go.com/nhl/standings/_/sort/pointsFor/group/1

How depressing is that? Come Saturday, we could very well be 30th considering San Jose has a game on us and Columbus is playing tomorrow and Saturday. The only silver lining would be that we have two games on hand to the Blue Jackets.

Though, that's to be expected when you have a coach who doesn't practice the power play, and there's actual confusion as to who is responsible for the power play: the head coach or assistant coach.

I'm sorry, but a team that has the talent we have should be nowhere near the bottom in GF. It's been a common thing during the entire time Torts has been here, but I'm not completely sure that firing him would solve it. The dude is a good coach in all of the other areas of the game. I just don't understand why this team can't score.

We can't just blame Torts though. We've all seen the complete lack of effort from some of the guys. Just not a fun time to be an NYR fan. Team is absolutely loaded with talent, great D, and world-class goaltender, but they just underachieve so hard.

You know what, I want to blame the coaching but game in and game out I see just too many offensively Pejorative Slured plays. Like today we had over 40 shots... Half of those shots were attempts to emulate Patrick Kane's OT cup winner. Not moving on the PP. Taking a shot from the point is our favorite move when we're in the offensive zone. The only problem with that is that none of our defensemen actually have a solid, accurate shot from the point. Yet it's still bombs away.

Coaching is probably telling them to take shots from everywhere which explains games like tonight. But I really believe our team as a whole may be offensively Pejorative Slured. I hope I'm wrong though and some coach comes in and we light up the lamp like crazy.

Edit: Oh and how could I forget this teams heavy reliance on dump and chase... Even on the PP. Is this team really that friggin inept when it comes to carrying the puck into the zone? It's completely pathetic.

The system is what dictates how the shots are taken, how the stupid cycle is used (which is a joke when the rangers do it)... the system is also dictating not just how the guys shoot, but what precedes the shots... the defensive shell prevents them from chasing loose pucks, putting a man IN FRONT of the goal (which never happens, by the way), taking shots without hesitation...

We might make the playoffs... but we'll be lucky if we pull one or two wins out of the first round.... after that, torts is gone....

I'm also now in the club for Richards needing a buyout... such poor play... I want to blame it on torts system, as well as no training camp for the upper 30's centerman, but I'm running out of excuses foe the guy.

The cycling requires good shooters at the point.
And maybe a screen or 2. But most of the time, the shots don't get there or there is no screen.

Exactly how old do you think Richards is?

lol ive read it ten times and still don't understand.

I'm pretty sure that he means that he is old enough to not be afraid of the dentist. And since he is not afraid of the dentist he won't need to hide at the rink when he got an appointment with him.

Still doesn't make sense though.

When you are very talented and good at a certain craft and compete against others who are just as good at it, you have to hone your skills with constant practice to stay sharp and gain even the slightest edge on your opponent.

How does a team who's been utterly dismal on a PP in all of Torts' tenure here not work on it daily until they're gassed? How does it not hire a 2nd assistant who's actually brilliant at it? No salary cap on coaches.

This year we learn they barely practice it and Torts doesn't teach offense. What the hell do you expect when you neglect something?

The guy has a lot of good coaching qualities but his stubborn ways and inability to adapt tactically and add to his coaching strategies will drive him out of the league. Happens to a lot of them.

Who is the only person to hold Michael Jordon below 30 points per game? Dean Smith.

Who is the only person to hold a talent laden roster to 28th in the NHL in scoring? John Tortorella.

Better question would be....which pastime does Tortorella do more frequently:
A) go dog-walking
B) practice offense with his NHL team

Here's a hint: it's not the one he should be doing.

Can't wait til this guy leaves NY.

I mean, I'm not nuts about how Torts has done things this year, but I can't think of another solution. Guy has tried every possible line combination, every coaching strategy of the powerplay. It just hasn't clicked.

I hope they keep him around at least into next season. I think he's earned it, and this 48 game season is incredibly awkward, rushed, and throwing us off.

Also, I like how many people he pisses off.

Really? It doesn't bother you that he has yet to properly figure out how to handle the media in the big city?

There have been some stupid questions asked and unnecessary barbs or supposed insights as to why the team is struggling that has warranted Torts lashing out. However, there also have been questions asked which he either said he has nothing to say on the matter or he blows a lid and goes ballistic.

Not the medias fault when they have him saying they don't practice the power play and they in turn ask what he plans on doing to rectify the power play.

i dont know how a team can be 28th in goals and still employ a coach who doesnt practice offense. that seems like grounds for firing torts right away

Honestly, as much as I do like the MSG crew, I don't care much at all how he deals with the media. I like that he doesn't disclose injuries, I like that he's emotional after a loss to the point where he's unapproachable. The man hates to lose.

I don't always agree with his lineups, or when he decides to line juggle. I love the way he encourages the guys to play, the style of hockey he brings. I don't always love dump and chase, but it's not as bad as people here make it out to be.

Reality here is that people make sarcastic comments about his "System", and "Jam", but none of us have a damn clue exactly how the team is coached. We just know what we see, and when it isn't working, we're convinced that something else will.

Every fanbase in the league is convinced that A) they can come up with better line combos than the coach, and B) that all backup goaltenders play incredibly ONLY against them.

The Rangers fanbase suffers from this to an incredible degree.

I know what he said in an offhand remark, but do you REALLY think that an NHL team doesn't work offense at practice? I mean to you believe for a second that Torts doesn't have them work offense?

I don't.
