When Frozen Royalty last checked on Los Angeles Kings defenseman prospect Alex Roach, he was still just getting his feet wet in the professional ranks with the ECHL's Ontario Reign last December.

Five months later, Roach has helped the Reign become the third-best defensive team in the ECHL, and they are now in the second round of the playoffs, up 2-0 in their series with the Utah Grizzlies.

Good article, Gann. I've been a Roach fan simce he was an invitee several years ago.

He still has a long road ahead, and I wonder what the Kings have in mind for his future? If he'll stay in Ontario and join the Monarchs next season?

Unfortunately I think he has his work cut out for him.

Kings are very high on LaDue and Lintuniemi. Not to mention Ebert, Miller still being with Manch next year, and Leslie coming up. Then there are the guys like LoVerde as well. Also factor in how tough the Kings D is to crack in general.

I simply don't see a place for Roach in the Kings system to be honest.
