Soderblom Recalled by the Wings

This kid is going to be our secret weapon

Incredible hockey player. Hakan special
I hope so. I'm honestly looking at that Soderblom stock and I'm still not sure if it's a Netflix or Blockbuster. Just too traumatized by previous flashes in the pan. I'm obviously not smart enough to project players so I'm just going to enjoy the run he's on now.

Damn, I just liked so much of Berggren with Elmer & Ras. But anyways, that's a deep Bottom6 to have:

Veleno - Compher - Berggren/Kane
Elmer - Ras - Kane/Berggren
I think Kane's IQ is a little too high for Elmer & Ras. He wants to make nifty back door plays, and have give and go's and that isn't really either of the other guys games. He could utilize one like if we wanted to try a Ras, DBC, Kane line I'd be ok with that. But two net diggers isn't really Kanes MO for successful lines. Berg's game is a little more straight forward and he has been shooting more with them which I think works well with that line. He also hustles back defensively better than Kane.

Any reason this thread ended in March? Looking at Red Wings' roster and other than him being drafted in 2019 and splitting his first three seasons between Detroit and Grand Rapids I still don't know much about him as a player.

Assume he receives a qualifying offer. What should be expected?

Bottom 6, 10-15 goals per season.

Definitely will get a contract. I could see him pushing 20ish goals on the 3rd line. Very intriguing player. Would like to try him on PK as his reach could cause major problems. Can’t be any worse than what we had this year on PK

Without dramatic improvement or PP time his currently upside is probably a 10g 4th liner at best. I don’t see him ever pushing 20g as he is now. He hasn’t had a 20 goal season since he was in Sweden 4 years ago. 10-20-30 is probably his stat line which for a good team is 4th line stuff.

Currently, Söderblom has 9+10 = 19 points at 47 games as Red Wing.

That's 33-point pace at 82 games.

Expecting some development from him, he should easily be 15+20=35 points player after a full season. Maybe more. 20+25 should be expected in prime. Maybe more goal-heavy.

How many 20 goal seasons did Protas have before hitting 30 in the NHL this year? How about Thompson before he broke out?

Stats can be misleading for these types of players. If/when they put all the tools together the results can come quickly. Söderblom is unlikely to hit the Protas/Thompson level, but he showed signs this season of being on the verge of putting it together.

I love Ras's crazy-eyes.

Ras isn't really pulling his weight, to me. He seems to be not a bad bottom-6 guy with flashes of "YEAH!" I don't know if that keeps him on the team.

I am ready for Bloomers to become my new Ras-crush.

I think he's earned a nice bridge-deal. Something like 3yr 3.3/2yr 2.4 seems fair to me, he's shown a lot of up-side and looked good.

Try and sign Rempe. Ice out the tallest line in NHL history (Soderblom/Rasmussen/Rempe).

I honestly think you could get him cheaper than that. Like 3 years 2 mill per

Oh for sure, I was talking total value of the contract: 3 years @ 1.1 per for a total of 3.3 million.

I think Berggren's camp was pushing for a similar deal but Yzerman&Staff just gave him a 1yr prove it. I actually think Soderblom proved more in his time than Berggren. Most anyone would say Soderblom is "trending" towards everyday NHL'er. There were questions about Berggren last year that pretty much still remain, idk if he gets a long-term offer.(anywhere)

I'm way more comfortable giving Soderblom 3 years than Berggren, but part of that is knowing that a guy of such unique size could probably be dealt for a reasonable return if he shows anything at all. I don't think Berggren has that fall back for us in seeking a deal.

soder's entire game depends on him quickening his first step in order to get to spots/plays quicker , plus create his own time n space . exercise everything from toes to arches to ankles to calves to quicken his jump . do barefoot calf/toes raise on a 2x6 board plus walk around on tippy toes to get toes n arches strong as possible . his future depends on his foot work because he has the hands/shot/mind/reach/bulk

Which is wild, because they've been running nearly parallel for 5-6 years in 3 different leagues now, and at no point could you look at Soderblom and say he was the better/more effective player. Bigger? Sure.

The one thing I’ll say about Söderblom is he hasn’t gotten any. power play minutes up to this point. It would be interesting to see how he’d do on our one unit that is one of the best in the league. Here is our PP ice time rank last season among forwards.

Larkin
Raymond
Cat
Kane
Tank
Compher
Kasper
Ras
Burger
Copp
Söderblom

Part of that could be due to injuries, but i’d like to see him play a season with close to 1 minute per game and see how he looks. His assists per game was ahead of Kasper, Copp, Berggren and Rasmussen. I think Kasper will only get better, but I’d like to see how effective Söderblom would be on the power play.

If Soderblom continues to embrace the physical side of his game, I think there is significant more upside to his game. Big if, though. If he doesn't...I don't really like having either guy around.
