Was he ever bad for us? I always thought he looked good every game he was called up for. I'm excited I hope he stays, I love watching him play.
He only played the first season he was in NA, 21 games. He was bad in the defensive zone, he'd hot potato the puck to the closest player and put his linemates in a bad position where they'd either have to chip it out or get full Nielsened. Thought he looked OK in the offensive zone though.

With his new found physicality, I hope that wasn't an issue. I did not catch the game last night. I moved back to MI, new job, looking for housing, no time.

Considering he had next to no practice time, he looked pretty decent in his own end, when he wasn't quite sure who he should have, was guarding the slot.

On a few occasions, he was the first forward back on the back check, even though he was on the forecheck, sort of like Howe (end comparison there), he needs a few strides to get up to speed, but man, he covers a lot of ice quickly once he's rolling.

We'll see how he makes out after some practice time with the wings, but defensively and compete wise compared to a couple of years ago, I liked what I saw.

He didn't bury anyone, but had a few good check finishes, which for the wings, was quite refreshing.

What I liked the most, he didn't look out of place, once he fully acclimatizes to the NHL speed, (might be quicker than I think) he'll do OK.

Good luck on the new living quarters search :thumbu:

Rempe 2.0 and tonight is his coming of party?

Send Veleno to the moon and replace him with Soderblom.
Lmao ... lots of candidates for me to go away I'd prefer tarasenko so soderblom can move up a line and go with a soderblom compher berggren line

Love kasper and hes been doing amazing but for a moment we saw Elmer larkin raymond on the ice and I thought to myself I Wouldnt mind seeing that for a few games

He certainly had an calming effect on the Habs when they were trying to push the captain around and skated into the picture and got involved, if Kane is out until next week, Elmer will have been up long enough to learn the system a little and get some practice time in, I think they will try him as 1LW for a spell and let Kasper go 2C when Kaner gets back for the next evaluation cycle,

Ya he look really good out there and looks like someone we need. Can we really let a 6'8 forward with his physicality and skills go ???

been pushing for a call up for him even before his recent ahl surge cause I always said he'd be someone who'd play better in the nhl with better talent than ahl and can see his age and was thinking he'd actually might be let go at seasons end

We gotta play him rest of the way and see what we have. Alot of kids are coming and evaluations have to be done. Trade guys to make room

Kasper Larkin raymond
Buchelnikov (top 10 pick?) nygaard
Soderblom danielson lombardi/finnie
Mazur Rasmussen james

Evaluations have to be done soon. Was just checking to see what we might look like in a few years and wasn't easy. Had kasper 2c then thought what if we end up with a high pick this draft

Didnt even have berggren, kiiskinen there. Debrincat gone, sure I'm forgetting some prospects right now. I know all these guys wont make it + free agency and trades, what if that 2 c is filled with a cozens

Anyways point is evaluations have to be made so play a soderblom for 40 games, call up mazur and tuomisto, wallinder etc... and see who's here cause not everyone will be able to make it

Definetly think elmer can be here a long time

Love to see Soder up and playing well. I had sort of written him off prior to this season, but it sounds like he has really come to play in GR this year. Would like to see him get a shot for the rest of the season and see what we have. He is out of waiver options soon and I don't feel like Fischer or Motte have brought enough to warrant being in the lineup over him right now.

He needs to keep up the solid defensive play and some physicality to at least dig out that 4th line spot for him to develop in. He is still a 6'8 unicorn and it seems to be coming together for him a bit and should be able to make a contribution on the PP with the hands he has.

He looked OK offensively when played 2 years ago, I think they parked him in GR until he developed his skating and defensive side a lot more, his broken foot did slow him down, glad to see him past that now.

I know it is overcooking prospects sometimes, but SY has always been vocal about having the yutes in a position to succeed, Elmer looks quite ready.

I was also on the write Soderblom off bandwagon earlier. But he has impressed me with his improvements. Plays the body and his physical game is much improved. Processes the game faster and is quicker with the puck now. Skating appears improved too. He needs to stay for the season.

Agreed. He's always had the hands, and his size makes him a menace in front of the net, but outside of the first 5-10 games of that initial callup he bobbled a lot of pucks, wasn't doing anything defensively, and then his output dried up.

He was always going to have a long development curve. Rarely do you see guys anywhere his size not take a bunch of extra time. Guys like him usually don't start to peak until their mid to late 20s. The problem is that you need someplace to park him at the NHL to continue that development.

His skating, defensive play, and physicality prior to this season left a lot to be desired and you need that to at least get that 4th line spot at the NHL level. The days of the 4th line PP specialist has gone. All three lacking areas have really started to come along this season, thus he has gotten that callup.

As for overcooking I'm pro it until the kid shows he is better than NHLers. Kasper/ Ed were maybe a bit overcooked. Both looked better than their peers in pre-seasons. I can get the tie goes to the vet, but it was clear with those two that they were better than the vets. Elmer until now hasn't clearly looked better than vets to stay up or earn a callup, so I think he has been appropriately rolled.

I'm half way of the belief that the "overcooking" with Kasper/Ed is a part of the reasons they have been as successful as they have been.

In seasons past, his biggest hang up IMO was his skating, which magnified his defensive shortcomings. He looked like he was riding a donkey around the ice a couple years ago. I hadn’t seen him in GR in a while, so when he came up a couple days ago, the first thing that struck me was how much smoother his skating was. He’ll never really be a plus skater, outside of having a long stride and a decent top speed, but his skating is definitely NHL quality now.

He also just looks more fluid in all respects. I wonder if this is another case of a big man needing a couple extra years to grow into his body.

Lol, how is anyone calling Kasper overcooked?

Yeah, Kasper isn’t even medium rare yet.

Soderblom - Larkin - Raymond
DBC - Kasper - Kane
Burgers - Veleno - Tank (mazur next on the call up)
Ras - Copp - Compher

That’s what I want to see.

I'd be good with it but not a fan of Veleno on the 3rd. He hasn't shown much this year outside of being able to hustle IMO... that's like a 14-15 million dollar 4th line, yikes. Not that salary should determine your roster spot.

I like Elmer because I think he makes a lot more sense on the 4th line than someone like Veleno.

I've always been disappointed that Veleno hasn't been able to develop into a stout matchup center. He's got the skating, size and some grit to be a matchup center. He just can't take a meaningful step.

I liked him a lot as a prospect but it just hasn’t come together for him. He's kind of fallen into Emmerton territory… not good enough for the top 6, and not industrious enough for the bottom 6.
