Post-Game Talk: +/- Sock Monkeys versus Little Sisters of the Poor Edition

+ Everything except...
- Glass

Unrelated to the game version:
- Malkin injury
+ Malkin injuries and Sidsationality production making it harder for Geno to make a case for higher than current cap-hit.

That's still gonna be tough with Getlaf getting 8.25m.

Add on to that Letang was supposed to get the Pens a discount after his "struggling" season. He's struggling his way to a commanding 7 point lead in the defensemen scoring race. Oops.

Not to mention that "Tanner" is a stupid ****ing name. Settle down Tanner, it's time for the class afternoon nap.

point of order: Tanner '88 is ****ing legit. a Robert Altman directed TV miniseries for HBO. great political satire. it's a mockumentary of a presidential campaign.

Tanner Glass however is a botched abortion of a hockey player.

Here are just some random thoughts from being there live:

+ Crosby: Seeing him live at this level is just so much fun. I was there for his hat trick on hat night and tonight. The guy is the most ridiculous hockey player I've seen since Mario. He's so dominant. He does stuff in space that no person should be able to do. He makes the game just look so easy. That pass he took off the left skate with ease and didn't lose a beat was ridiculous. I've played this game forever and wouldn't even imagine doing that and instantly having my head up looking for a play.

He's also the smartest hockey player out there. He's 2-3 steps ahead of anyone. God...I hate to sound like a fanboy, but he's so damn good.

+ Live Experience: I know we give Consol fans **** for not being loud, but looking around tonight changed my perspective. I was sitting in the First Niagra Club and I watched kids act as if it was Christmas morning watching the Pens. It's an amazing thing to think that I was one of those kids in 89, 90, 91, etc. just staring at heroes on the ice. I wish we had a more college like atmosphere, but it's really special to see kids take this game in. Hockey is ****ing awesome.

+ Beauner-ing Live: I thought Beau was good watching television, but now I know he's got a future here in Pittsburgh for sure. He's better than I thought. He's in the right position and surprisingly does a lot defensively that the tv probably doesn't pick up. He's just ALWAYS in the right spot. I think RRP used the word "Creative" earlier and he's spot on. He has a different game that we've been looking for. He was tremendous.

+ Vitale: Why is this guy ever scratched? He was 7-0 in the faceoff dot and won 2 BIG faceoffs against their top line after we got caught on icings. That almost always ends in a goal against or a penalty when a top line comes out against a 4th. Vitale won huge faceoffs and we got Sutter on (who is a boss at shutting down oppositions).

= Vokoun: He's making saves but I can't tell if it's luck or not. I watched him flub 2-3 pucks just dumped into his glove. I don't know why. He looks shaky but then comes up with the save instead. He needs to get his full confidence back. His glove side looked VERY weak.

Minus

- PK: I know the PK was perfect, but they are lucky the Isles didn't score 1-2. We let them gain our zone so easily. There was no pressure. On top of that, they worked the puck through our box like it was nothing. Vokoun came up with some lucky and big saves to keep the puck out. We also had some clutch blocks. I really don't like our PK

- Tanner Glass: He's worse live than he is on television. He's ****ing awful. He flubs everything. I also don't know how he registers hits because he hits them so freaking late after the play it's pointless. He's just garbage out there. The most useless player. Live it was even worse.

Were you the guy in section 101 every time Glass was out on the ice that yelled "Score a goal Tanner! Do something!"

No.. but that person was sitting about 4 rows back from me.I heard it every time. I was in 102 though... drolling over Crosby and Beau and probably giving too much props to Vitale.

How dominate has Crosby been? His assist total (33) is higher than all but 3 NHL players point total (Stamkos 37, Kunitz, 36, St. Louis 33).

It's not just at the rink that you can see Beau play D. I said a couple games ago that his defensive work is worthy of notice. Malkin has had the puck on his stick more since Beau started playing on that line. I love the passing - the saucer pass and the stretch pass are terrific. I also like that he is capable of carrying the puck himself a little bit.

But I think that Beau's best quality so far has been his puck possession. He helps the Pens get it and he's pretty good at helping us keep it too.

On Dupuis' 2nd goal I realized, "he's just toying with the rest of God's creatures."

He could have scored. He could have robbed Nabakov's house and had sex with his wife. Instead just just does that. Just please stay healthy.

Letang is 3rd in the entire league in assists and leads Timonen and Shattenkirk by 7 points in the D-man scoring race.

Imagine if he could get his PP act together, haha.

Ugh.

Dunno if anyone saw it, but on the play after Neal's breakaway goal Beau tried a 60 foot backhand sauce pass to Neal for a breakaway. Okposo knocked it down, but it was still on track. I got a Beau-ner watching.

Oh, I saw...what a player. That was nuts.

Infectious eh? Glad you got to take this one in live, man.

He seems very patient out there too...protects the puck well just by altering his body position and doesn't mind waiting for the play to develop a bit before finding the right guy. I think you're onto something when you say Bennett plays a "different game"...we're used to seeing Sid and Geno pushing the pace and executing at warp speed, but Beau seems a little more methodical. It's a blast to watch.

Yeah, he needs to be in, even by virtue of faceoffs alone.

You must've been sitting right behind me. I'm in 102 also.

On the way out of the arena I was joking that Sid would lead the league in scoring on assists alone, I didn't realize how close he was to actually doing it haha

The thing with Beau is he's not the fastest guy in the world but he's really great at a few things that give him an edge: vision, playmaking, stick handling, and never giving up on a play.

He always has his head up making the smart play, knowing where the other team is and where his team is.

So nice to finally have him healthy and back at the top of his game.

Sadly i mssed the game but could anyone tell me how it went? I see that veryone played superb and depres actually got more minutes? Is he keep going to getting more minutes?

I thought he played well, others thought he had a bad game.

I guarantee he sits against the Bruins because Bylsma views him as the first man out against "toughness"

He fell over to gift the Isles their only goal on a 2-on-1, so no, he'll probably be scratched the next week or two.

Scary to think how good Beau could be if he added some explosiveness to his skating.

Imagine what Crosby (15:00) and Kunitz (14:05) would of done with some ice time.

That is an amazing amount of production in such a short amount of ice time. That worked out well though since it was back to back games and they need their rest, especially with a couple tough games with Boston coming up and Malkin likely being out a week or two. He'll almost certainly miss both those games.

Phrases like "more assists than anyone else has points" were thought to be reserved for bygone eras. Guess not. This is one of those nights where you remember that being a Pens fan is ****ing awesome.

Possibly. We are going to need some tough big bodies against Boston though. That's a big, tough ****ing team.

Not arguing that at all, just think Despres is actually a tough, big body.

Unrelated: Sid is 3 pts from being guaranteed a PPG season.

Halfway in.
