"Where will a player who is better than all of our players slot in in our line-up"

The sad part is that’s also the organization’s mindset. I wouldn’t doubt one bit they’re not interested in Marner.

I don’t know how you can keep willingly passing up opportunities to acquire higher end talent &/or potential higher end talent when you’re in this situation. You’re pretty much minimizing your chances practically down to a full on miracle by willingly shutting down these avenues.

This is why the Luckanko pick was so maddening. "We already have some small defensemen. So we're not going to draft a guy who is probably better than one or more of them."

I don't disagree on the infusion of talent that Marner represents to the Flyers, but they would need to take into account the hefty contract it would require. Marner is also 28, so he doesn't align well with Michkov's trajectory. And the glaring needs of 1C and 1D are still as glaring.

Open question: If we play the hypothetical game, what is the trickle-down effect of signing Marner for the next 7 years at around $12 million?

Every prospect they have is always untouchable too. The Flyers always love their ratty Beanie Babies. They cry if you take them away.

Funniest thing, deadhead and hostage always said that about "the hivemind". Yet it's the Flyers who just can't let go of their delusion and keep lying to themselves in this regard.

My whole thing would obviously be strip it down & build around Michkov. So that is & has been my personal choice all along.

But to me once you re-signed Konecny to his deal you can’t really sit there preach patience too much. He’s a player that is making the most impact in his career right now. Not 3-4 years from now. Same with Sanheim, Cates, Tippett, etc. Even a guy like York is about to enter his prime.

So to me the current path the Flyers are on I’d push some chips in now which to me you’re realistically not gonna get better than an opportunity to acquire Marner who’s legitimately like a top 20-25 player in this league regardless of his short comings.

If I’m going to add I’m going to try to add difference making talent regardless of position & to me that’s potentially Marner.

Like I said though I doubt both things align with one Marner willingly wanting to come here & second the Flyers willingly wanting him to come here. So it’s probably moot anyway.

The Flyers likelihood of getting aggressive this summer though is probably handing someone like Eklbad a blank check which has disaster written all over it.

I’m of the baseball like mindset that if you’re going to invest a lot in a player you only do so for legit star players. Everybody else comes with a lot more fiscal responsibility when thinking of committing to.
