Sobotka Returning? (Yes, with extension)

Besides, that isn't my point at all. My point is that foregoing an objectively better player due to 'chemistry' that is producing middling-slightly above average production would be a mistake. For all the hand-wringing and complaining about Lehtera, Yak, Jaskin and Sanford over the last few months, I'm shocked that people are suddenly comfortable with at least 1 of them being a top 9 player in the playoffs.

I missed where anyone said this. The more the merrier.

The Blues still have a reasonable chance of facing Anaheim, which would be expected to be a pretty bruising physical series with some casualties. I'd rather have one more warm body, and if its a veteran with a bit of playoff experience, great. Especially a guy with a lot of versatility in his game. I would prefer for him to play a few games with the team first, though.

I guess define comfortable? It's not a Cup roster and wasn't with Shattenkirk and IMO wasn't last year.

Can we go on a similar run this season as we did last season, I think we can.
 
On second thought this likely means the end of Barbashev in the starting lineup this year, which isn't fair based in how he's played. I'm glad to have Sobotka I think but if Barbashev gets the pine instead of Sanford or Lehtera that would be unfortunate

That's a sourpuss post.

There isn't a lot to be done about the roster right now. Even a small bonus like adding Sobotka is a nice unexpected plus.

But they're not going to call off the playoffs. And the Blues are still going to try to win series. Maybe they'll pull it off. I don't see juggernaut teams in the West that scare me, or that will sweep the Blues. Chicago is the cream of the crop, and I think they're a flawed team too. They'd probably beat St Louis, but would people be that shocked if the Blues pulled that one off?

I see no reason not to be happy about adding Sobotka, if that's what happens. He tends to get over-rated through the lens of nostalgia on this board, but he's good enough to help this team right now, if for no other reason than his motor.

No way man, Yeo isn't taking Barbie out of the lineup, Sobotka will take Jaskin/Sanfords spot.

He's a 3/4 center to me until proven otherwise. I also don't know why anyone would think Sobotka would bump Barbashev out. Lehtera....that's another matter.

I could see Vladdy slot in on the 3rd line wing if the Blues have a fully healthy (minus Fabbri) roster.

Curious about the rumored extension.

I was just piggy-backing off the previous quote about people being comfortable with one of Lehtera, Jaskin, Yak, Sanford in the top 9.

It's just hard for me to believe that anyone can be feeling comfortable with this roster in general, regardless of what happens with Sobotka. It will take a borderline miracle for this squad to make it out of the second round.
 
I find it hard to believe Barbashev is the odd man out with Sobotka returning
 
Maybe I'm so used to Hitchcock picking the safest, most dump and grind guy possible that I've counted Barbashev out too early. I hope he stays in the lineup

Its always felt that way to me, even when the Blues were contending for the Presidents Trophy. I'm looking forward to rooting for a true underdog, albeit one with players who have at least experienced winning a couple series. I fear they crested last year, but we'll see if Armstrong has something in mind for next year. But dammit, I'm going to enjoy this post-season if it kills me.

It's all a matter of perspective. From where I'm sitting, it looks like this recent run of good play has fostered a sense of general enthusiasm in some that might be warping expectations unfairly.

I think the Blues can put up a fight, which is more than I thought they were capable of a few months ago, and they've earned their chance to do just that. I just think it's a bit odd to be talking about being "comfortable" with a roster that currently can't ice a legitimate top 6 center.

I guess its a hang up on the word "comfortable". I'd be surprised if anyone would expand on their expectations for this team going into next season with that roster and say "comfortable". I'd disagree with that, too.
