Prospect Info: So who is our top prospect?

Subban is a hard one to categorize. Doesn't have "ideal" goalie size, but his athleticism is off the charts. Not really concerned about his pro debut, he's young and just needs to mature. He and Z-Mac should push one another, which is a good thing.

What do you consider ideal goalie size? 6'2, 200 doesn't seem too bad to me.

Kirk just wrote an article on Koko in his Scouting Post blog. Nothing really new but reiterates that he is a skilled NHL caliber player that has little chance to play in Boston unless he can make it at wing.

6'2" 200 isn't a "bad" size for a goalie, but I believe Subban is 6'1" and around 190 :D

Personally, I don't have an "ideal" goalie size. I was referring to the preference NHL teams seem to have of late for longer/leaner guys that take up more of the net (ala Bishop, Rinne, etc). Lundqvist is only 6'1" and Thomas is 5'11", so obviously shorter goalies can be successful, but if you look at the majority of Vezina winners over the last decade, they are at least 6'2" (Price is 6'3", 215).

Subban is listed at 6'2, 200 on both hockeydb and nhl.com. I mean, yeah, he could still use a little bit more height to have completely ideal size, but 6'2, 200 doesn't seem "undersized" enough to single that aspect out. It's never been something I've been too worried about. With me, it's just about his technique.

I saw that, but for some reason, he never seemed that big to me? For example, a guy like Holtby is listed at 6'2" 203, and he seems much bigger, or at least "plays bigger" (but maybe that's just against the B's ). The B's own Zane MacIntyre is listed at 6'2" 207 and when I have seen him with Subban, he always looked like the bigger goalie?

I think with almost any goalie, it's more about technique than size, so I agree with you there. Goalies are a mystery to me, other than the basics, so I am probably the last guy that should be critiquing any of them. I love Subban's athleticism and don't see any reason why he can't be a good NHL goalie as long as his mechanics are good, I would just prefer it if he were a couple of inches taller :D

Yeah, I know what you mean. Some guys just look bigger/smaller than they actually are.

Hell, goalie prospects are basically a crapshoot to predict even if you do know a lot about them. It's such a difficult position to project. I've just seen so many guys come through that rely too heavily on their athleticism and get torn apart at the highest level because they need work on their technique. Definitely my main concern watching Subban.

I consider Pastrnak and Spooner regulars in Boston now. They were really the bright thing last year.

I saw most Providence games last year. My favorite prospect is Joe Morrow who I hope can bring mobility and play a great transition game in Boston.

I like Koko but I doubt he will get a chance in Boston. He along with with another prospect plus a first round draft pick should bring the defenseman I want most. It's Cam Fowler of Anaheim who is a superb skater and an excellent allround defenseman and great playoff performer.

I guess those who have Colin Miller as high regarded has seen him play and it will be extra special to see how high he can climb on the Bruins prospect chart.
I don't know much about Colin Miller. I can't recall seeing the guy play even against the P Bruins.

I just cant wait to see Rob O'Gara join the Bruins. Think he will surprise everybody and turn into a top four shutdown defender. His partner may be Miller or Morrow. Another college senior I think will join in March and help right away is big but fleet LW Sean Kurlay.

Of course Danton Heinen is a must top choice I figure next year.

Also in Providence I like Malcolm Subban, Zane McIntyre in goal.
guys with good upside is Brian Ferlin and it will be interesting to see how two three guys like Colton Hargrove, Colby Cave and Justin Hickman can do.

Wonder when Winger Peter Cehlarik comes over to play. The sooner the better.

The real excitement however comes in a year or two. I just love three defensemen drafted this year. Jakub Zboril, Jeremy Lauzon and Brandon Carlo. I think they are going to make it all three of them.

I am also high of the two first round picks Zach Senyshyn and Jake Debrusk with dark horse Jesse Gabrielle.

The Bruins could have nearly 10 guys from their last three drafts in two years.

A sure bet to make a prediction is: Subban-McIntyre; O'Gara-Zboril-Lauzon-Carlo; Pastrnak-SHeinen-Sesyshyn-Cehlarik-DeBrusk-Ferlin- plus trade acqusitions Morrow, Miller and Kurlay. That V

Agree with most of your points but that package doesn't get you close to Fowler. I wish, though.

Right now, based off of a few chats with a few different prospect guys (and only a few live viewings) - I'll say Zboril. But it's a mess up top. We've got an immense level of depth, despite lacking a blue chipper at any skating position.

When it comes to 'relative' prospect placement - Subban would be the guy because there are at most maybe two or three prospect-level goalies ahead of him. Yet, because he plays a position with such volatile value, I wouldn't rate him above third on our overall rankings.

That's great. I see you are from out West, do you happened to watch DeBrusk at all? If so, how's he look?

I didn't exactly circle the Swift Current games on my calendar.

WHL has a lot more storylines next season, so I'll be catching a lot more games and will give ya updates when I can.
