I live in upstate NY and I have had a problem with an occasional game being blacked out when the Sabers play for a couple years now but this season I don't think I have been able to watch a single Rangers game when the Sabres are playing.

This is extremely frustrating. I am in the Binghamton area, closer to NYC than Buffalo and this was never a problem before. Almost seems the NHL is forcing fans to the Sabres?

I really hate to miss so many games. I am Time Warner cable BTW, dunno if that matters. Any info and/or help would be appreciated.

(missing another game tonight :( )

I lived in Binghamton in the early 2000's and had the same problem - unfortunately this is nothing new and was definitely frustrating. Of course, nowadays you might be able to find a stream of it somewhere online.

I'm in Delaware co., and same here with directv. I'm 180 miles from NYC, 300+ miles from Buffalo. Its not the providers, its the nhl and their Pejorative Slured team territory map. With the NFL (they also have a buffalo franchise) we get all Giants and jets games. We get all Yankee and Mets games. We get all Knicks and Nets games. But what does the NFL, MLB, and NBA know??? The nhl has it all figured out, right...

Makes no sense. They are broadcasting Isles-Wild on MSG plus here but not the rangers. There are 3 Isles fans north of Yonkers.

Yes, I can see the Islander game here too. I never watch the nhl on days when they blackout the Rangers.

Contact the morons in charge, http://www.nhl.com/ice/feedback.htm?pageRef=/

And they wonder why the league can't attract flies...

The Rangers have no problem drawing in house or on TV. Whatever upstate and western NY territories you give the Rangers, you're taking away from a franchise that probably needs it more.

Eh. Where I live in CT I can't get any of the games no matter what.

Really? I live just outside Hartford and I get MSG and all the Ranger games. The Devils/Islanders are blacked out but who cares about them?

Yes, the Rangers can draw, but I referred to the league. How does it fair compared to the NFL, MLB & NBA??? Yeah, not well...

If the league thinks force feeding team territories into areas that are FULL of NYC transplants that have zero interest, then maybe Buffalo doesn't have the support it needs... Maybe they should make the move over the border, where they can sing O Canada to a crowd that actually wants to hear it... They sing that in Buffalo at ALL home games in a desperate attempt to draw Canadians. Maybe the nhl should expand Buffalos territory into Canada.

Buffalo should have Western NY. That's where their fans live. Where I live in the Catskills, we want to see NYC teams. 3 of the 4 major sports leagues (the successful ones) know this.

I never see MSG on any TV at any bar beyond Hartford, especially when I'm up there fore Wolfpack games

Give me a ****ing break. Who gives a **** about Buffalo? If you're a Rangers fan and your local carrier gives you MSG--you don't want to be watching the ****ing Sabres instead of the Rangers.

Been that way forever.

We get isles. we get sabres. we get devils. we get Knicks.

Never know when rangers will be televised.

The life of an upstate nyr fan :shakehead

U-Verse, but I think Comcast has it too.... I don't get the NHL network though. Don't understand that.

Nahh. Comcast doesn't have msg. At least not officially. Sometimes they will put an msg game on like a public access channel or something but they don't put it on the guide or anything.

Unfortunately uverse isn't available on my street yet.

This my friends, is what you call a shakedown.

They want you to buy center ice.

They won't black it out in markets that don't care. It won't work. They target the big market and run the flimflam.
They get me every year. 160 bucks or so. But I'm a huge fan. Been that way since I was a kid. If the Rangers are on, I want to be watching. So rather than go out to a bar that paid the money for center ice and drop them 40 bucks a game, I pay these f'ing pirates and at least I don't have to go out in the cold.
The only time it screws you is when they help you out and put the game on NHL Network, but the Sabres are playing. Then you get nothing.
But usually on blackout nights, you just have to watch the other teams broadcast.
It's dirty, but so is life.

where in ct are you?

I'll never understand the Gamecenter blackouts though. It's very Stalinesque.

OK, I get it. The Sabres want Northern NY to support their team and support their sponsors etc. But if I pay for the Center Ice package, why would the Rangers game STILL be blacked out???????

The sad thing is that there are more NY/NJ kids who root for the Rangers who go to all the SUNY schools in the Syracuse/Oswego/watertown area than there are Sabres fans.

I have yet to go to any bar here in NNY and see people watching the Sabres.

It has been like this for awhile. Friday night was blacked out on msg but I got both the home/away feeds on center ice. Get Directv and center ice. I haven't been affected by a black out yet.

This schedule has proved to be quite accurate for me in Ithaca on DirecTV.
So far, I have gotten the odd extra Rangers game, but haven't been blacked out of any additional ones.
When I had TWC in Ithaca, there were lots more blackouts.
Next season, I'll be living in Caps territory so it's going to be GCL, CI or HockeyStreams.

Pete has been posting this schedule for several years now in September.

The league bends over backwards for its small market teams.

The Sabres use to have their own TV station--Empire Sports Channel. Back in those days they were as cocky as can be. Regularly ripping the Rangers for spending too much money--being a bunch of country clubbers--not that that was off the mark. The Sabres did everything the right way--drafted and developed and controlled costs. Darcy Regier was a brilliant manager. Lindy Ruff was a brilliant coach. John Rigas was the upstanding philanthropist who bankrolled it all and whose ass Rick Jeanrette and Mike Robitaille and a whole bunch of others were constantly kissing. To me they were like the Fox news of the hockey world. And then Rigas and others in his family went to jail around the time time of Enron and Worldcom for stealing money from his own company. Lots of it and that is at least partially why the Sabres were foisted on MSG. All of a sudden they were beggars with hats in hand and now they're a little more polite--though it's hard to be arrogant about your team when it absolutely sucks--not that we have a lot to brag about either. Dolan I'm sure gets paid off for this but as SML aptly points out it's a shakedown if you're a Rangers fan living in upstate New York. AFAIC the Sabres can just go and **** off and the NHL league offices can piss up a rope as well. Buffalo's real territory is Buffalo and its surrounding suburbs out into the Rochester area to the east and down towards Jamestown to the south. They also have some fans across Lake Erie up into Ontario--but not too far and that's about it. Hardly anybody give a rat's ass about them where I live and that's about 4 and a half hours from NYC. They don't have any grip in the Binghamton, Ithaca, Elmira, Corning areas.

I'm in Binghamton on TWC also and after years of getting frustrated at MSG blackouts I just gave up and started using HockeyStreams. I'd be happy to give the NHL my $ to let me watch the Rangers but it seems they'd rather force Sabres and Devils games on me instead or just expect me to drive 3.5 hours to NYC to watch games.
