So, some government agents just tried to get into my house...

About 30 or so minutes ago, my doorbell rang. I usually don't like answering the door because my neighborhood is filled with weirdos going door to door collecting money for some phony charity or something. Recently some mustachioed dude who looked like a serial killer was doing the rounds and he said he just got out of prison and had no money and he was selling random trinkets. I even had a couple of kids ring the bell who offered to sing a song for money. A few days ago I saw a black dude with a paper pad ringing every doorbell and I was really wondering what he was up to.

Anyway, so I answered the door this time because I'm waiting for a package.

So there were two young girls (looked early 20s) who were dressed in what seemed like a cheap safari uniform bought at the dollar store.

They were very aggressive and said that they had to come in to inspect my fire alarm to make sure it was properly installed.

I asked them who they were and they said they worked for the city. I said that I received no notice that anyone was going to come in for an inspection. Then they said that they have no time to warn everyone and that if they did people would just fix the alarm before they came to avoid fines. Then they insisted that I let them in because they are sent by the city and they have the right to come in.

I refused again and they insisted again and I said that if the police needs a warrant to enter a drug lord's house, I'm pretty sure fire-detector-investigators or whatever they are don't have a right to just enter anyone's home like that.

I basically had to slam the door in their face since they were so insistent. Then I looked through the window and I saw them walking on the sidewalk and going to ring at the next door.

I assumed it was some kind of weird scam... I mean those girls couldn't possibly be actually sent by the city, right?

Well, it turns out they left this at my door:

Seriously??? Are you telling me they were actually real city employees?

What's next, are you going to sent the health inspectors to inspect my fridge and give me a fine if I don't have enough organic salad?

I think I'm going to complain to the city tomorrow.

Either those girls acted waaaaay beyond the scope of whatever job the city gave them, or we have a mayor who needs to look up the word "fascism" in a dictionary. It's one or the other.

I wasn't sure whether to post this on the lounge or in the political board since it's as much a personal blog post than a political thing... but anyway.

City employees would have photo ID. Just ask. If no ID chances are they want to get in to case the joint for a future B & E by the local specialists. The doorknob tags may be found at various city offices.

As for the mustachioed dude, do not ask where he got the seed money for the trinkets. This might cross his wires.

Wouldn't surprise me if they were not really city employees (especially if no ID), but rather representatives of a company that makes, sells and installs smoke detectors.

Anyways, do not forget that Denis Coderre is the mayor.

I always assumed the mafia gave him those trinkets to sell in exchange for a cut. I know they do that all the time in italy with illegal immigrants from africa

He probably got robbed the next day. Case job if I ever heard one
I doubt that. Any potential thief that would come into his house would feel bad and instead of stealing stuff from him, would bring stuff they have stolen in other houses to give them to him.

Actually this is normal though here in Ottawa I believe it's actual firemen that come and do the inspection not just some random summer hires. I also know that in both Ottawa and Montreal you can be fined for not having functioning smoke detectors due to existing by-laws.

Halfway through reading I thought it was going to have an X-rated ending.

Disappointed in the G-rating.
