So... Nashville is 1st in the NHL...

The question is: Can it last?

Haven't been following the team too closely this year, but it definitely surprised me.

I have to assume this is on the backs of Weber, Rinne, and Forsberg/Rebeiro.

I mean...yeah, in the same way that any team's success is on the backs of their best players and goaltending.

Nashville has probably the best defensive depth in the league....again. They're quite at good at drafting dmen, in case you hadn't heard.

Their possession numbers are good, and they play a fairly aggressive brand of hockey now. Laviolette seems to burn out after a few years, but when he hits a new team, he makes an impact.

Oh, and Rinne is a freak of nature. It's not fair to be that big, flexible and athletic.

I think it can last to the playoffs.

I'm not looking forward to facing them in a 7 game series, quite frankly. They're doing all the right things.

I really hope they can bring back the Kostitsyn brothers and Radulov for the playoffs.

The team would be so deadly.

I just meant it in a sense that, it appeared in previous years, besides Rinne and Weber, there were no star forwards that could really lead the offense, but that seems to have changed now.

I think it's the perfect storm of new coach, hart caliber goalie hitting or nearing his peak, top five defense, and the best forward depth we've ever had coming together at the same time. Watching this team is pretty special for us Preds fans, we just keep managing to win games that in the past would have been sure losses.

Most NHL fans said we'd never get there. Now it's "it'll never last."

In reality, I don't expect it to last. I do think we'll finish the year in the top 5 in the NHL though. But this team shows very few weaknesses and those it does show don't typically last for long.

They certainly can continue this success to finish the season. But we all know it's all about the playoffs. We'll see then if they are a contender or pretender. President's trophies are nice, but Stanley Cup trophies are what's real.

Neal started hot, but then cooled off. Now he's injured. They said tonight it was a nagging lower-body injury. So, I'm hoping they're sitting him to get him healthy for the stretch run.

So basically you guys are 1st in the league, and potentially one of your best players is injured...

Same as Colorado last season, pretty much: godly season for the goaltender is the biggest part of their record.

Not really. Colorado's possession stats were godawful, Nashville's possession stats are quite good.

They're not over-relying on their goal-tender, he's just always there when they need him, because he's a freak of nature.
