I believe no one has been more critical of Yzerman's FA signings on here than me. But Larkin is 1000% out of line. Beta male energy. Publicly making excuses when he didn't BRING IT HIMSELF! He always folds when the pressure is on! What was Yzerman supposed to do? Trade Ras and Copp of Kucherov? Like stfu and LEAD! I'm close to done with this guy.

He’s the captain of the team, not the front office, maybe he was speaking for the whole locker room and it needed to be said from their perspective. Maybe he felt that he would take the heat and criticism and speak on behalf of his teammates. In terms of stepping his game up? Maybe he was injured after the 4 Nations tournament

It's hard to blame him but honestly as a professional this was not a good look. He may be in the process of emotionally checking out. If he does want out that would be an incredible trading chip for Yzerman to work with.

But why would the locker room even be losing sleep over what the GM does? They need to stay in their lane. The leadership needs to refocus everyone on executing the game plan. If that shit is allowed to fester, then you end up with bigger problems. If leadership is encouraging this fruitless speculation, then that's an even bigger problem. On what planet do the players think it's a good idea to tell their GM they don't like how he's doing his job IN THE PRESS?

This is terrible judgement. This is dumb. Are they expecting Yzerman to nod his head and say "now that you mention it, you guys are right and I'm going to change up my plans"? Do they want Yzerman to invite them over so he can put the calls with other GMs on speaker phone? What would anyone be expecting?

Remember when Bert got traded and Larkin was sad? WTF? He didn't die. His friend moved to another city. Normal reaction: "aww man, that sucks. Oh well, I'll be through to visit now and then. Oh, see you this summer where we'll spend our millions of dollars on a fishing trip." Is Larkin cut out for this?

I am not into resetting the pool, but what I am saying is the wait and see is getting a little stagnant at times. He has sat through his last couple press conferences talking about being heavier, being more competitive. I have listed what you said at times on why I am not interested in giving up on Yzerman a big part of his plan is arriving. I would like to see him trust that more in roster spots and callups when we are in a rough patch though too. I get that Mazur unfortunately went down on his, but we waited too long on Ed last year. We waited too long on LaLonde. When you pick the two way complete guys as a hallmark, the I don't trust young players is tough. It is especially tough when the young players held up their end of the bargain this year especially under McLellan. Now he himself doesn't have a huge record with youth as LA fans would warn, but I think we need to plot these roster spots better and be more aggressive with some of the youth. I think he needs to be more decisive at times in terms of Yzerman. I get it takes two to tango, but not all these guys are going to play for us, start prioritizing assets and getting looks earlier.

The only move I totally don't get is sticking with lalonde so long. I get starting the year with him, but it was obvious by mid november-ish that lalonde was done here. To go another month with the guy just nuts unless Yzerman didn't think he could get his guy yet.

I think the heavier to play thing became a real focus after the 4 nations. The rougher canada-america game got a lot of focus, then refs seemed to swallow their whistles after play resumed. It'll be interesting to see what Yzerman does this summer.

What significant moves apart from the draft has Steve made? The only good one was DeBrincat, which was basically hand fed to him. All the other trades he made have really turned into a large collection of nothing players for us. I love Steve and think he is a good GM, but the past 2 offseasons and deadlines he has not made good adds to this team, apart from Cat.

Blaming Larkin is ridiculous. Look at the Wings subjectively will ya. Larkin, Ray, Mo, Ed, Kasper, Cat, and then a whole lot of over played and downright bad players on this team. Not really counting Kane as he is as much a hindrance as a help a lot of the time, with lots of floating and nothing else brought to the table. 5 or 6 good players, plus a lot of junk is not a very good team, unless at least 1 of those was Marner/Rantanen level which upfront we don't have currently.

I really feel like a lot are not separating their love of Yzerman the player and taking it out on Larkin. The Wings have been terrible for the majority of his run here and he barely has said peep about it. He says one minor nothing burger comment in frustration in his 10th season of this and a small fraction are ready to boot him to the sun.

I don't know what to tell you if your idea is to deal Larkin. The likelihood of getting equal value back that doesn't involve getting lucky with either picks or kids is slim and none, imo.

Indeed.

I understand there's only so much Yzerman can do regarding who's available via trade/UFA (and if they want to come to Detroit ie Trouba), but for every reasonable move DeBrincat/Copp/etc he's had his head scratchers Mrazek/Holl/etc.
