Not sure on Bogosian's status after his surgery. He was supposed to be back by December, so it seems like he should be alright, but you never know.

Burmistrov was hurt in the AHL and has been on the shelf for a while. But info has been sketchy with regards to the injury type of severity, so no idea if he will be ready for the start of the season.

Antropov has not played in Barys the past couple of weeks. Having trouble hearing what has happened, but he might be injured as well.

Otherwise, I think it should be the expected lineup...

Like the title says; how do we look now that the season is starting? (lineup if that wasnt obvious)

Pavelec Montoya

Enstrom Byfuglien
Hainsey Redmond
Stuart Clitsome
Bogosian (inj) Postma

Ladd Little Wheeler
Kane Jokinen Wellwood
Ponikarovsky Scheifele Antropov
Burmistrov Slater Miettinen
Thorburn
Meech or Machacek to replace the injured Bogosian

I kinda wanna discuss how we look this season overall, like what we expect etc.

But anyway, I'm expecting something like

Ladd-Little-Wheeler
Kane-Jokinen-Wellwood
Antropov-Burmistrov-Ponikarovski
Machacek-Slater-Thorburn
(Cormier)(Miettinen)

Enström-Byfuglien
Hainsey-Bogosian
Stuart-Postma
(Clitsome)

Pavelec
Montoya

Could see Burmistrov bumped up to the second line at the start of the season to see if he can find some chemistry with Jokinen and Kane. If he can't, that third line should be great defensively with some offensive upside.

I actually want to see Cormier on LW instead of Machacek, and see Machacek take Thorburn's spot, but I think Cormier is injured, right?

Those are the D-pairings I want to see to start the season. I want to see if Postma can handle the NHL, and if he can't, then Clitsome takes his spot.

From what I saw at the WJC, Scheifele isn't ready to go yet. His balance seemed way off.

How will Buff look???? That's what I'm concerned about. And Bogo, I hope he is ready to go, a lot of people have asked him on Twitter how his recovery is coming along but no reply. The best news is I don't have to go to the main boards anymore. Big market hockey fans drive me nuts..

Lee Stubbs worked really hard with him over the summer apparently he was in really good shape before the lockout(by Buff's standard), but they haven't heard a peep from him since so no one knows where he is at.

I really wish I could say he was, but I don't think Schiefele is quite ready. I would give him a couple games to see if he can bring it, but finishing the year in Junior would be best.

I have a hard time believing that even if he was ready, that they'd burn 1 year of his ELC on a shortened season. It'll be good to see him in few games, but I bet he does < 9 games, heads back to Barrie to help them win the championship, then heads to the AHL (if the IceCaps are in the playoffs - not a foregone conclusion at this point, unfortunately).

I agree on the D and with most of the forwards you've got. I think Scheif will at least start five games before going back to finish the year in Barrie. I disagree that Little-Ladd-Wheeler will be the top line, I think Jokinen will centre the top line to start the year.

Agreed.

Your lines look great. Based on their play in St Johns, I also would not be surprised if guys like Meech or Redmond get some ice time in the absence of Bogo. but Clitsome would be the first choice im sure.

1st line / 2nd line - I think they end up being used more like 1A 1B (or 2A 2B, if you're more pessimistic ;) ), depending more upon situation than anything else.

Can't believe we can actually talk about NHL hockey! :handclap:

Am I mistaken guys or is Scheifele not able to play anywhere but junior this year? Is the NHL/CHL agreement changed by the lockout? Cause if not once he's sent down to junior he's there for the whole year.

...except when the CHL season is over - once the OHL playoffs are done, he can play in the AHL. He did this last year. EDIT: also, he could be brought up to the Jets at any time - they'd burn a year of his ELC if they do though.

Pretty sure there is an agreement in place with the CHL that they can come up for training camp now play 7 games and not burn a year.

Yes: sorry, I was just responding to the CHL agreement part and where he can play without burning a year of his ELC.

I imagine we should hear the first injury report soon, so we should know a little more about Bogo's status. I remember about a month ago, it was mentioned in the Free Press that he just had the pins removed from his wrist and was healing on schedule. He would then be in rehab mode. Since Bogo is a beast in the gym, he just may be close to ready for the start of the season.

I found out what Buff's been doing to stay in shape during the off-season:

not sure what your logic is behind this.
20, 40 or 84 games - a season is a season, and they all lead to the playoffs.
if he's ready to play in the NHL, he will play this year. the lockout, if anything, made a greater case for him to play with the club. he's played in better hockey "situations" than any other Jet.

Pretty much exactly my thoughts...
And pretty much meshes with what Noel does.

Two Scoring Lines:
First two lines share top minutes but Ladd's Little Wheeler (LLW) takes the tougher line matching (higher quality of competition (QoC)) with some pushing into the offensive zone. LLW are all topend NHL two-way forwards and this is where they can accel. Kane, Jokinen and Wellwood get sheltered (lower QoC) and also get pushed heavily into the offensive zone with lots of offensive zone starts (OZS). None of KJW are that great defensively and that's why they do best in a sheltered scoring role.

Shutdown:
Antropov, Burmistrov and Ponikarovsky play shutdown with the highest QoC and lowest OZS. They can be offensively dangerous while shutting down other teams. We all know Burmistrov is super defensively aware. Ponikarovsky is one of the best shutdown forwards in the NHL and Antropov brings size and chemistry with both of them. I would like to see Slater work as a face-off specialist doing a lot of draws for this line in the D-Zone and then quickly switch with Burmistrov (who can catch up to the play pretty easily with his speed).

Utility Line:
Noel will probably do Mittens-Slater-Thorburn and make Machacek the 13th, but personally I'd switch Thorburn with Machacek. The two are about equal defensively but Machacek is better offensively. Only thing Thorburn brings better than those three is more grit than Mittens (but the other two bring enough for the line) and more truculence... but really Thorburn is one of those players most teams start to put in the pressbox post-All Star break... and with a shortened season his inability to play is going to highlighted. Heck even last season Thorburn was hidden as much as possible. He was technically on the third line but Noel still used him sparingly enough that Thorburn had twice as many games as Flood or Jones but equal icetime (and less than the rest of the forwards who played regularly... even Stapleton lawl).

Defense is the same as last season but Postma brings more offense than Flood and hopefully less pizzas than Ran_y Jones.

I agree that I don't think Scheifele is NHL ready... Especially since there is less ability to shelter with a shortened, stakes-are-higher season. I think he gets a few game look and then sent down.

I think Scheifele will make the team and impress, at least at the beginning. Some of the guys fighting for spots haven't played competitive hockey for 8 months. Scheifele has 30 OHL games and six highly competitive world junior games. Plus he's just played tons of hockey in the last 365 days.

I think a lot of guys and teams are gonna come out flat. Having a hot hand at the beginning of the season could be key. My only worry is jetlag. He's 11 hours off and that's gonna take at least a week to get used to.
