If one goes to the HHOF or picks up a Hockey Almanac (do they even publish this anymore? I owned one back when they were thick as a phone book), you will see a list of the Stanley Cup winners and the players on the teams.

No one asks, "I wonder how they won each game" or looks at their advanced stats.

Sacrificing is the only way to win a Cup and this incarnation seems quite committed to blocking shots and playing defense. Defense wins Cups.
Yeah. I actually quite like the fact they have played pretty shitty, boring hockey all season long.

I've been trying to stay in his corner since he said " I want to be here. Im gonna play hard and not waste this opportunity". I've seen guys like Paul Kariya and Theo Fleury tear up the league with speed and intent, no reason Robertson can't, especially if he stays engaged.

He has been more physical, he is one of the few Leafs who can gain entry from the hash marks to the net with quick succession, and, he is a legitimate scoring contributor.

I know Berube is thinking "he doesn't fit the playoff mold" but he is showing he wants to be there while playing 4th Line minutes. It's going to be tough for Berube to break up a winning formula, especially as he is seeing the core scoring dry up.

If you want a wave of lines who play aggressive defense and maximize opportunities, you're going to need a guy who can carry the puck and fire with a rapid release. Any serious Cup champ needs a couple of post-season surprises.
Let’s keep Robertson on the team and give him chances to shine. He’s small in size but he’s energetic, quick and skilled enough to produce offensively at the nhl level . He could explode soon with multiple 50-60 points type seasons. I don’t want a repeat of another Steve Sullivan situation . Both players have similar strengths and weaknesses.

I said before the season that I would happily trade Matthews getting 20 goals in the year if it resulted in a Cup.

He will break 30 thanks to injuries but he seems far more interested in piling up wins than goals. This is critical this season in particular.

If you're going to keep him, you've got to play him. He hasn't been playing much.
I still think he's trade bait.
