Post-Game Talk: Smiling Stu Shutouts x 2!

Board is wonky, not sure if the reply will show because Leafs are falling again.

Nah, credit Oilers. But @Cloned was right. Kings were a better test.

Vegas had their guts ripped out in game one. Up two goals in game one, at home, and they don't take it home. You can't lose like that.

I remember years ago when Oilers were underdogs against Dallas in 97 and came from behind 3 goals in I believe game 3. Dallas lost that game and ultimately the series because it sowed such great seeds of doubt. The OIlers are exceptional planting those seeds.
I’m always right ;)

I have May 19, 1984 etched in my brain, which is the day we won our first cup. We will just be finishing up the second round this year at that point. Just ridiculous.
I was at my grandparents with my parents. I was 13 and that was the very best of times. My father died in 86 and my grandmother in 90. Old Grampie wasn’t far behind. I often think of that moment as the last great moments of being a kid.

Don't forget the rounds were best of 5 back then. The SC final was a best of 7 and the first round was a best of 5....can't remember if rounds 2 and 3 were 5 or 7.

But I agree that mid to late June is far too late.

Just the first round was best of five. But I’d like the league to explain how 2 extra games takes five extra weeks to complete. ;)

I’m a terrible human because I hate every team that’s still playing. I passed it onto the boy. He’s got his girlfriend turned into an Oilers fan but she was perplexed when he explained that regarding the Leafs/Panthers you could cheer for both teams to lose. Our goal is for every series to go seven games with multiple injuries. Years of Oilers fandoms has turned our hearts into stone.

When you live as long as we have, you are bound to have grudges against most teams. If I don’t have a grudge against a team, I feel bad for their fans, cause it’s likely they were irrelevant and sucked during my entire lifespan so far. ;)

You guys are pups. I remember as a kid watching Henri Richard score a couple beauties and the Habs (my favourite team before the Oilers) beating the Hawks for the cup in 1971. I think there might have still been some mounds of snow on the ground.

Don’t worry as soon as Connor and Leon hoist that silver trophy the narrative will change from they will never win in Edmonton to they should have won in Edmonton sooner. Remember when it was they can’t dominate in the playoffs?
The mental gymnastics on the mains is beyond delusional. I can envision it now:

The Oilers had an easy path to the cup
The Kings are a bye every year
The refs helped the Oilers out this year
The Oilers cheated by LTIRing Kane
One cup isn't enough - they should have won three by now
Etc, etc.

Huge congrats to the 31 of us with the faith in this team and the balls to predict the outcome in 5.

No, the year he was born .

1889

I have no evidence for this but I'm like 99% certain he discovered the secret to immortality and intended to conquer the world, but then got addicted to hockey. Ditto for @Drivesaitl

1. That's pretty cool! Didn't that guy have like ten Cups?

2. It feels a lot easier to cheer for the Habs than any other Canadian team. And they seem to be the only fanbase that openly supports us when they're out.

They have to plan around Katy Perry concerts and WNBA games now. Plus the required 3 day break between games in the Cup final to give the Eastern team a chance to get used to longer travel.

We have this in common. Was a wonderful Habs yr with Ken Dryden in net, beating the Bruins first, and coming from behind one game from 5-1 down to win 7-5. Could have been Beliveau best game and Bobby Orrs worst. Then the challenge of the Hawks who were a real good club.

Just curious where would the Oilers parade when there's so much construction everywhere

"can't go there, there's constuction. can't go there either, that's tent city"
I spit my coffee out reading this post. I’ve never read a truer post on this board. I’d say maybe just hold it at WEM but I’m not sure that place is accessible these days either.

I’m sure it’s going to be difficult for Leafs fans to hear but that’s exactly what Mathews value is to teams that are serious about winning in the playoffs.
Yes and no. If Matthews doesn't have to be "da man", he might excel. Add Matthews like Dallas added Miko. He could certainly be a difference maker.

I will never cheer for the Canadiens. They voted against the Oilers joining the NHL

Every year I think about that date too while I’m watching the Stanley Cup finals in late June. They had a formula back then and it was teams played every other night unless they were waiting for a round to end. I’d love to get back to that.
