Post-Game Talk: Smiling Stu Shutouts x 2!

Like I said though it wasn't just having Marsh. It was having him at the exact time that he had his best heater ever. He's that example in a playoffs where individual players can have out of body hot stretches and his perfectly coincided the moment Vegas played Oilers. In the last 4 games of that series Marsh scored 5 goals and added 3 assists. he was everything in those 4 games for Vegas but on a level that he never was before or after. Some lightning in a bottle stuff. No knock on Marsh, just everything he touched was suddenly gold. Happens sometimes.
That whole line was insane that run. Barbashev Eichel Marchessault. No team had an answer for them that post season. That allowed stone to player lower down the lineup and made them a way deeper and more dangerous team.

Yeah sorry let him walk. Still doesn’t change anything about what I said. You keep that guy.

I think they would've had to trade Adin Hill and gamble on Logan Thompson to keep Marchessault, just to make the cap work. Basically, they would've had to trade their Cup-winning goaltender to keep their Conn Smythe winner. In hindsight, that's obviously the best move. Maybe it was the best move at the time too. Thompson always had good numbers.

and they still have Barbie and Eichel. What did they do? Barbie was so bad I couldn't imagine J Skinner being a worse option. Half the time it looked like Barbie was passing to Oilers players.

It would never happen again. Weird lightning in a bottle. All 3 heating up at same time to be briefly better than they really are. Barbie is a clown. Guy after doing nothing all series finally figures he should at least throw some hits in elimination game. A pretender.

It wasn't really a dogfight. There wasn't a moment last night where I thought the oilers weren't winning. The Oilers taking it, and the Vegas inability to finish anything was inevitable. Shots aside we were getting almost all the quality chances. Vegas basically spent most of the game trying to shut hockey down. Their game was so cynical, so one sided hangback and collapse that they had 5 real shots at net halfway through the game. pathetic.

Vegas are regular season paper tigers. Need more grit, heart on that club. They weren't believing. Although to credit the Oilers took any belief away starting in game one.

I really feel as if the Oilers stomped Vegas heart in game one. The way Vegas lost that game one at home, they never recovered

I don't know, I definitely had anxiety with how long Vegas was spending in our zone at certain points last night.

Combination of being snakebitten and feeling like you’re the only guy left on the club. Take a look at their roster. Without Stone out there he realizes he’s the only guy up front who can make an impact. Must be demoralizing. They lost all of their grit and tenacity.

Remember when they beat us? Eichel was still playing that way slowing up into the offensive zone where they dominated us with east-west slow up plays that tricked our defenders. Him and Marchessault and Stone lit us up this way.

Eichel has the puck on a string out there. He plays playoff hockey the right way. He didn’t get the payoff this series but really, who does he have to play with? You put him on a line with McDavid or Draisaitl and he’s competing for tops in the points race again.

Let’s not forget two years ago he led the entire league in playoff scoring and carried that group to a Cup. Only so much he can do.
Sorry but lame excuses imo. Super star player having 1 assist and a -3 in the final 3 playoff games isn’t good enough even if your line mate is Stortini.

Hill went insane out of nowhere too. That’s what happens when you win a cup though a lot has to go right. I still think if knobloch was our coach in that series we win that series and maybe the cup that year.

Bang. Eichel had a nothing series despite what Michaels and Debrusk were trying to build up all series. He ain't no leader. Rantanen earned respect with how he's playing and scoring. Eichel earned his golf clubs.

Oh yeah. If we had this coaching quality we win the series that year and probably the cup. As I've been saying best coaching staff since Muckler/Sather days.

They remind me of earlier iterations of this club before we solidified our identity and players learned how to play, which is weird since they have a Cup. Like their culture didn’t stick between transitions and additions of new personelle.

What’s shocking is the adds they’ve made with Cassidy behind the bench. This is a guy who coached Boston to incredibly dominant seasons playing hard nosed hockey, then Vegas the same.

They lost Marchessault, Stephenson, Amadio, Carrier — guys up front who were all crashing and banging and scoring. Perfect playoff hockey type players.

Replaced them with tepid, soft players that go against a Cassidy system club. Makes no sense to me at all. Massive disconnect between GM and coach.

By my eyes the closest Vegas came to producing a drop was last few minutes of 2nd period. At no point last night was my heart rate even increased.

Believe me the Oilers stomped Vegas heart in game 1. i've seen this kind of thing before and was shocked how awful Vegas were to let that home game get away from them. You can't lose that game one. you lose your whole room. Then theres other things like idiot hertl injuring his own trainer breaking his stick on the bench in game 3. clown stuff.

By the end of the series Vegas playes just wanted it to end. Losing all 3 home games, lol. Never seen that before.

This is the truth of it. People think, as usual, that the Oilers were 'out depthed' in 2023 but what actually happened was an unknown goalie came in and stood on his head while Eichel and Marchessault slaughtered every matchup Woodcroft tried to put against them.

It's nice if you have a team that can win both the matchups at the top and the bottom of the lineup, but it's the ones at the top that are actually important.

Good points. yeah, the DNA changed considerably. Carrier was an identity player on that club, Stephenson valuable. Marsh of course.

They replaced with clowns like Hertl. Plus an old Saad that was hurt, injured and couldn't even finish.

Still laughing at how bad Barbie was. Was good to see.

Barbashev was atrocious. Not sure why. He’s a hard nose player I’d love to have here. Something was wrong in that dressing room.

If you look at their team stats, it’s Eichel and Eichel alone. Nobody can hold his jock. Maybe they’re worn down and old. Can’t imagine Stone ever being an impact guy in the NHL again.

yep. No leadership. Zilch. With Stone injured there was no hope.

Eichel had one goal in playoffs and none in series. He doesn't get off either.

Karlsson, Smith, Hill, the only Knights that can hold their head up.
