Washington gets a bigger taller #6-7 dman who can play the PK and step in when called upon and would be a valuable add especially during the playoffs.


Vancouver needs some puck moving dmen and they get bear who was good in a pair with Hughes and Alexyev can be a complimentary #6-7 LHD, this would allow the Canucks to have better puck movers which would help us in the regular season and we can see by TDL if this is good enough for us to add or if we should retool for next year.

Well they get someone who is older, tougher, and can play the PK as a #6-7 for the playoffs when injuries eventually hit, and its not like they are using Bear and Alexeyev, so it also opens up a roster spot for them.

I wouldn’t write Bear off yet. In addition to the shoulder injury he was dealing with some off-ice stuff that derailed his career but he put in time in the assistance program and by all accounts is in a much better place now.

Hershey is probably the best possible place for him to have gone to rebuild his game tbh. He was just named to the AHL all star team, I’d be shocked if he wasn’t back in the NHL next season if not sooner.

They need defensive depth so opening up a roster spot to then acquire another D makes no sense when you already have 2 and Bear can already play in the AHL too.

"Not using them" also isn't a good argument here since Forbort doesn't crack their top-6 either.

Poor trade fit. There are teams who actually need D depth and toughness. Capitals as of now don't.

Well the Depth Guys aren't built for the Playoffs imo, I don't think I would be Comfortable with alexeyev, or Bear playing Playoff minutes if injury occurs, I think could fill for a bit but Forbort is better suited for playoff hockey, For the Canucks it makes sense cause we need puck movers.

Caps already have McIlrath who is similar physical D if that's the sort of D they want to plug in. Bear is #9 and fine for that role.

I wouldn’t be any more comfortable with Forbort than with Alexeyev so fitting his bigger cap hit really doesn't make any sense here.

There's plenty of teams who want physical D and plenty of dinosaur GM's who'd want Forbort. Caps really aren't one of them because they already have enough defensive depth and have similar but more physical player in McIlrath sitting already.

Yea but Forbort replaces Alexeyev who Forbort is better than and then you ship off Bear who is a #9 dman for you and on top of saving a roster spot for maybe a forward or a better dman down the line you also save cap and money on this deal, it benefits both teams and there is a fit IMO.

Agree to disagree. Alexeyev is already better than Forbort and rather have McIlrath at sub-1m than Forbort at bigger contract sitting.

Swap Forbort to Hoglander and Caps might be interested.

Forbort is a PK specialist who got absolutely caved at 5 on 5 in the playoffs for Boston. It just got so much harder to protect him in the spring.
