Swedes controlling the play... but Slovakia does get a shot on that looks dangerous every so oftne. Sweden better score soon and take advantage of all this pressure. The last few minutes have looked like a powerplay!

Now they've got a real one.

But if the Slovaks can just kill it off....................

If I were Slovak I'd be nervous right about now. Goalie will be fine because it has looked like a powerplay for awhile now. Nice clear from Urban!

There was a big argument about this on Czech team thread lol

With Badinka there was some controversy about his attidute towards NT, so I guess his absence can be excused. But leaving Mrtka and Benak behind is just plain stupid.

Mrtka has the size and is showing he is more then good for U20 level already, plus is considered 1st round prospect so far, you just dont leave such a player at home if your replacement is Volas, Port or Koci

Benak is just extremely skilled, I know his size is bringing him down, but for U20 level he is just more then good enough. I am not saying he would dominate WJC same way he dominated Hlinka, but I am pretty sure he would have been absolutely great and big threat with Sale on 1st line

Only Augusta and his staff knows. Same way they are probably only ones in all czech hockey public who didnt wanted him on the team lol
I agree regarding most things but not whole heartedly regarding Badinka. Again, if he was good enough it's the managements job to select him. Even if they need to convince him and- or apologize for not selecting him earlier.
No matter if he's stubborn and dumb it's doesn't take that much for a federation or the staff to both select him and motivate the youngster.
These juniors can be a bit more black or white with their perspective but I don't believe it's difficult to change the scenery and both select and convince them that the team will be stronger with them. Young hurt egos doesn't need to be difficult to handle. You need some basic competence to hand younger persons and especially competitors with egos.
I mean he's a SHL regular as a young foreigner. That says a lot for me. He has size and is a early pick.
But yeah, you guys told me he's known to be difficult... But who said that? The staff? Who shared that info out officially?

GG's. Sweden will now win comfortably.

Hope Strbak's okay. What an effort on that play.

Sweden clearly the better team in the 2nd to take the lead. 3rd period will decide this contest as the Slovaks are still very much in it.

The margin in individual quality became more than apparent in the 2nd period. One should however give the Slovakia players credit for staying well organized in their own zone. Also, they are blocking shots very effectively. The virtually complete lack of any offensive play has been the issue for them but it is still a 2-1 game and many things can happen in hockey.
