The team is not soft and the whole tough guy thing is way over rated. Those 3 you mention have a whopping 1 title between them.

in fairness Rod said a little nicked up players not serious injury guys. ObViOuSlY we want the really injured players to get back to play earlier to find out if they really are hurt or just wasting our cheap owners money.
Raanta's default status is injured.

I mean you shouldn't be built on it, but all the teams who have had success lately (especially against us) have at least one player who plays heavy hits every time he's on the ice. Boston and Tampa had a few, NY had Trouba last year, Colorado had Kadri....
It's definitely not the identity of the team, but it was a trait that the teams use as a catalyst to swing play.
Avs had Manson, Makar (he surely put Staal out of the lineup in Denver), a few others.
It’s not the 70’s-90’s but it still nice to have guys that can and do hit in the playoffs.

The Rangers squeaked by us because they had an all world performance from net and we had a 2nd string and a rookie who played all of 5 games before the playoffs. We beat that exact Boston club in the first round and Tampa was the defending back to back champs. A goon who throws punches doesn't change a single one of those series.

True, but in context of what we were talking about (a regular season game which likely won't mean anything in the long run, but opens up the opportunity to send a message) it's more about the way a team chooses to play.
If I'm Boston and I see the #2 team in the conference rolling out a star defenseman who's nursing an injury, I'm telling my forwards to knock the shit out of that guy on the forecheck. Don't do anything over the top, but finish every check, knock him down, make him go get painkillers at intermission. With any luck, that injury nags him even more and you not only hurt that team's chance at catching up, you put them in a bad spot for the playoffs as well. All that can be done without a Wilson type player, just by going at him constantly.
Canes play that game a little better than they used to, but by design they just aren't a team that runs around very much. Boston isn't quite as heavy as they used to be, but the culture is still very ingrained there and we should expect them to come for us.

I just want to see them develop that "swarming" mentality where you don't need an enforcer because you can count on 4 guys coming at you if you mess with the 5th.

Don't forget, the faceoff comes outside the zone or whatever if you do that. Terrible idea. Better to just let the 5th learn his lesson and take his beating and try again later.

I dont see any reason for him to play until after the all star break. If he's still not getting games at that point I'll be worried but why take even the slightest risk with him now

Agreed. There's no real need to rush him back, and given we keep winning, we can let it ride as much as possible.
Let him rest up through the ASG break. If he's still out when we're approaching the outdoor game, I'm going to start worrying, though.
