Post-Game Talk: Skinner Does Dallas

Yeah. I'm not sure Harley is usually dirty. I haven't seen that. It was more an angry frustrated play. The guy had been out on the ice for consecutive shifts of McD line, then Drai line and was just fed up and exhausted. He was gonna take a penalty there just to stop play because a GA was inevitable. In fairness the guy is getting a lot of minutes. Unlike Mikey in LA Harley probably respects Drai a whole lot.

Not absolving it at all, just what led up to it. For Dallas D in a game where your forwards are getting zilch and Oilers goals are inevitable it has to be frustrating.

I think what set him off was the last 3 shifts he got reverse-hit by Draisaitl. So when Leon turned to do it to him a fourth time he just tackled him. It's frustration for sure.

Oilers are now 3 for 3 in opposing coach meltdowns in the post season. People complain about Knob being too quiet but I'm glad he isn't a whiney bitch like Hiller, Cassidy and Deboer.

It all started with that infamous Calgary series a couple years back and the whole “two guys beat us” comment. Ever since then head coaches can’t seem to help but twist themselves into a straitjacket pretzel with increasingly wild histrionics when we play them. Maurice has largely been immune to this which is probably a reason why the Panthers prevailed last year- being a raving lunatic to the media probably means they are a raving lunatic in the room too, and that’s the last thing players in such high pressure situations need.

Klingberg please. Haven’t liked him at all this series and it’s clear the extra time a slower Vegas team gave him to find his lanes and work the line was a big factor in his play that series. Ekholm even at 70% offers more in the way of PK and ES sturdiness and we need that.

Ekholm-Bouchard
Nurse-Walman
Kulak-Stecher
Klingberg
Is it confirmed that Ekholm is back in the lineup for game 3?

Lucky, Nurse has to stop with this dumb shit especially with Ekholm out. He's too valuable to the team and there's too much at stake. If the Oilers simply cut the stupid out of the game (adding in the stupid Kane and Perry penalties in Game 1) and they'd likely be favorites for the Cup. Just cut the stupid out, it should be easy for vets to recognize this.

If Marchment and Benn's comments are to be believed than the dirty shit and penalties taken in the first two games have put the Stars on tilt. Which was probably the point.

No hearing no fine. DoPS has said so.
Players get fined without hearings. It happens.

Max fine in this instances is 5000. If in excess, they are then eligible for a hearing.

The refs already reviewed the replay during the game and assessed a minor penalty. One thing refs have complained constantly about is they dislike it when Toronto's video room or DoPS take the calls out of their hands.

Incidents like Duchene faking a high stick won't help the Stars earn favour with the refs either.

Losing credit with them means not getting any benefit of the doubt for other calls later in the series.

Duchene should've been fined for pulling that shit in game 1

Yea he’s trying hard. Way too hard.

I like him, in fact I really like him.

He needs to sit for a game and hyperventilate for a bit.

Then when he’s got the bit between his teeth, release the kraken.
wtf does this even mean? Sounds like someone who doesn’t understand hockey would say

I love Bieksa!! Earned a ton of respect from me when he refused to let McLean out an Oilers jersey on the ground and Bieksa took it from him and held it up.

I usually don’t watch the intermission either, but I was eating and had to…lol. You and I agree on Bouchard- but imagine how frustrating it must be in the other team- defending McDavid, they think they’ve gotten it out, only for Bouchard to fire it right back onto 97s or 29s stick. 97 and 29 clear the zone and start skating full speed back in because they know Bouchard is going to deliver that puck. A beautiful thing.
He bobbles sometimes but the majority of his keep ins at the point are insane sometimes.

What are you talking about? Kane hit Duchene in the face with his stick

No one is disputing he took a stick to the face. But replay shows it barely touched him. Still a penalty. But the way he threw his head back and went into convulsions on his way down like he was hit by Kennedy's 2nd shooter, made it obvious he was trying to make damned sure they called it. Meanwhile, Connor Brown takes a skate near his throat (not a penalty of course), and shakes it off like a bee sting as he heads to the bench.

Point is, a penalty is a penalty, no arguement. But if you start exaggerating to make sure the refs "get it right", eventually they'll see through those shenanigans and stop giving the benefit of the doubt. No one likes to be made a fool of.

I noticed last couple of games that the Stars are concentrating so much on McDrai and Bouchard on the PP they are letting Nuge get into unattended positions in the slot and circles , this must have been a strategy from watching video breakdowns

Kane grazed Duchene with his stick. And Duchene snapped his head back like he’d been shot.

I don’t think that’s just limited to Duchene or the Stars tbh. Every team has been doing that. It’s because the refs are blind / unwilling to call anything unless the players make it obvious.

If it could have been a penalty, Brown would’ve probably acted that way as well

The hypothetical is that “typically players don’t get injured on that type of slash”, which could be true, but in this case he did, which makes it a very dumb thing to have done
Yeah, im fine with nurse doing the same play over and over again, he was clearly going for the shipped.

Unless you’re fine with the goalies continuing to get run over

I think we can all agree that Stecher is an upgrade on Ceci and Vinny. I even thought so when he first came in and they sat Ceci for a couple games.
I honestly didn't think he'd be THIS good. I am so very pleasantly surprised. Glad he's finally getting a chance to play regular minutes in important games and moments. He has an unbelievable compete level and a motor that doesn't stop.
