Post-Game Talk: Skinner Does Dallas

The dumbest play all night by the Oilers was on the PP. You could see the Dallas players were desperate to get something at 3-0 and they sent two players high to try to just effect a block/shorty breakaway. Oilers fed right into it. Was like like slow motion not recognizing what was going on. For Dallas it was a setplay and something they pull off faceoffs in certain game situations. its all Dallas were trying to do there is score, but fortunately it was Johnson on the breakaway, (he didn't even get a sog lol) and the only reason he's on the ice.

Johnson is -15 in playoffs and a GA nightmare. he's not out there to kill a penalty. ;)

Oilers spotters or players need to pay a bit more attention to setplays.
Other than the initial PP, there doesn't seem to be a lot of urgency. I really thought with the PP at the end of the 2nd period, and then the 2 man advantag, they'd really step on the throat and ice this one completely, but all it produced as a breakway chance for the Stars. They really need to ramp up their efforts in that department. Right now, any success is due to some supreme skill contributing.

That KK is even nice about it just makes it better. I love this guy. He's like a good professor. He's right though, Deboer lost his head in the moment and just trying to milk officials on something. It was dumb comments. Particularly as Dallas were targeting the best player in the universe.
His choice of words, his tone. It’s all controlled, respectful, not full of emotion. He just owned Deboer while being calm, cool and collected.

Knob is such a great coach. He never gets stupid in front of the cameras, it’s all calculated.

WE should hope that he is. he's doing nothing.

Him and Robertson not on their games. Granlund, who shouldn't be doing this much, has been such a player for them this playoffs and even this round, and for some reason was removed from PP. Hard to figure what coaches are thinking sometimes.

Hintz last night on PP sprang the Oilers for oddman rushes at least twice with horrible passes.

Hintz, Robertson, Johnson have been terrible. But Dallas need production so they stay on the ice.
Dallas has a bunch of "wannabe toughs" on their team. Robertson, Hinsz, Granlund, etc are playing with fire, if that's what they want. I fully endorse what Nurse did to Hinsz. He didn't cross any big lines, we had a nice lead and it sent a big time message to not f*** with him. I thought he was magnificent last night, and add Bouch into that realm. Every time Rantanen came to Bouch's side of the ice, he was completely erased. Deboer, Benn and Marchment should just shut the f*** up, with all the shit I've seen from them these playoffs and over the years. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

This is still the gold standard for me in what you are allowed to get away with and not be suspended. Nurses slash was dumb, but about 1/20th as vicious as this one.

The fact that the NHL even spent time reviewing it, is a head scratcher that they have no clue. Happens a hundred times a series - this one just got him on an unprotected sensitive spot. Good aim by Nurse, on one of the leagues biggest pukes.

Nurse also prevented a goal when Skinner lost the puck right in his crease. Robertson was right there, Nurse didn' even allow him to get near that puck. So many plays Nurse and the other defenders have made. Somehow even without Ekholm they've been the best D core in the playoffs.

Robertson sure ain't tough. He's big but you wouldn't know it in any way.

yeah Booch is sure having Rants # in this series. Just negating him everytime. Been splendid.

If Nurse does get hit with his 1 game annual playoff suspension, i wonder if they get Ekholm in a game or two early?

either that or they're playing Emberson 6 minutes and running 5 D all afternoon
There is no way he gets suspended. It a cross check to the face isn’t suspension worthy, a slash certainly isn’t. If they suspend a slash- you are going to see a ton of 4th liners go down like that to get the other teams best dmen suspended

Evan Bouchard was really good in game two.

By the way, Bouchard's 1.11 points-per-game in the playoffs is second-best in NHL history among defencemen.
He’s been a monster all playoffs. That highlight pack that Cassie played during the intermission was excellent. The pack showed how strong Bouchard is in the neutral zone. Not all defence is played in the d-zone. His first pass is the best in the league in my opinion.

Many, many times I've seen guys going down the ice and shooting on an empty net, and get tripped, pulled down, stick slashed, etc, and EVERY time an automatic goal is awarded. Can anyone on here explain why this wasn't the case with Hyman last night?

Well it’s simple really:

Marchment talking all tough over the Nurse slash. How about Marchment giving a ref a whack a couple weeks ago? No call? They still wanna cry? Nurses slash was barely harder, Marchment is lucky that ref didn’t end up in a boot.

I hope he challenges Nurse and gets knocked the f*** out
Marchment would bring his dad to the fight.

Nurse dad vs Marchments dad.. hmmmm

The toughest thing about Mason Marchment is his scowl and bad breath.

In the same game McD got submarined by a player trying to put him in the hospital 2X. That was BEFORE the Nurse whack. That was Blackwell. Played 10mins, had 2 hits, both on McD, and with the Dallas crowd lustily cheering both of them. Both were attempts to injure McD.

Nurse basically reminding Stars if they want to take liberties. From the outset my only problem with the Nurse play was that it was Hintz. he's not doing anything anyway. Oilers should WANT Hintz and Johnson on the ice at this point.
Got to see some of the highlights, Drai hauled down in a quasi-slewfoot/judo take down was pretty f***ing dirty too. Sure it was penalized but that could have went sideways for Drai and the Oilers.

I think it was because it wasn’t a “clear” path to the net - I.e breakaway. He could have shot it from where he was (no one there to block the shot) and likely scored, but he may have missed the net (such an oiler thing to do). I agree with you that it should have been a goal- but that’s the justification of it not being one. At the end of the game- I think I preferred the PP because it allowed the Oilers to finish the game relatively easy with no chance of the cheap stuff

Cassie said something good about the Oilers? I missed it. She must be ill. She picked Stars in 6 FWIW.

Yeah. I'm not sure Harley is usually dirty. I haven't seen that. It was more an angry frustrated play. The guy had been out on the ice for consecutive shifts of McD line, then Drai line and was just fed up and exhausted. He was gonna take a penalty there just to stop play because a GA was inevitable. In fairness the guy is getting a lot of minutes. Unlike Mikey in LA Harley probably respects Drai a whole lot.

Not absolving it at all, just what led up to it. For Dallas D in a game where your forwards are getting zilch and Oilers goals are inevitable it has to be frustrating.

Man I avoid ever having to hear anything she had to say.
I avoid the intermissions alltogether. Anything to do with Cassie or Friedman or..

About the only one I like is Bieksa.

I thought Cassie was fired and now she's back. Somebody must've told her to say something nice about an Oilers player. Only time it would happen is with Oilers being only Canada team left.
