I also think that the overpassing in the Offensive zone is another major issue.

WTF is it with this team that they think they can pass the puck into the net?

That game was brutal, we failed in fundamental effort and the Oilers never looked like they believed they could win. oof. Much worse than when we sucked last year imo

Something big needs to change. We knew the D was going to be a mess, but the composition of forwards is a mess again -- losing Hyman and Arvy was like 2/3 of the work rate lol.

A mental reset might be needed soon. A goalie would be ideal, but they will never get that done, so I have no issues sacrificing a coach to kickstart some buy-in. That was hard to watch. This roster needs some Rick Bowness love imo

I was too hard on Koskinen. Skinner makes me see that with abundant clarity.

Its gotten to the point where if the other team gets a rebound chance...the consistent lack of effort and awareness around the net is foregone conclusion. Far too often the Oilers get out positioned and outworked around their own net.

That Bouchard play on the 2nd Wild goal.
Wow.

Need his battle level if the Oilers are going to lay up eggs like this. Someone needs to atleast try to push the needle.

Arvidsson too, people may want to flag on him but our offense has looked a lot flatter with him gone and with Hyman too it's even worse. Even when they're not scoring they generate a lot of activity in the offensive zone, without them it's immediately noticeable.

This isn’t a good hockey team. It’s a bubble team.
Limited offence, strong team d (statistically most nights), awful goaltending.
We technically are a playoff team right now but don’t look like a team that can go far. Crazy how much changed from last year.
That said, only 1/4 of the way in, but still.

Compared to game 21 last year….
(This year on the right)
8-12-1 17 points / 10-9-2 22 points (+5pts)
70GF / 58GF
79GA / 67GA
56%xGF / 54% xGF

Very similar to last year but better defensively this year, can’t score and imho due to an easy schedule, up 5 points.

Guy was buzzing out there pre-injury. And finding chemistry with Drai which really isn't easy. That said, his injury risk is rearing it's ugly head right now.

It's time to start ditching the notion that the effort and compete level isn't there/consistent. We need to accept that fact that 75% of our roster is old, washed, as well as tired from the long run, and just doesn't have the pace anymore.

The xGF number looks pretty similar to me. The disparity in GF is largely from the PP difference. The PP had 9-10 more goals at this point a year ago, otherwise the non-PP offense is about the same.

People will hate to hear this, especially after they went to the well to get Bowman, but Quenneville would will this team to a Cup.

That was a classic game against the Wild as usual...
Imagine you are getting a goal presented as a gift under the Christmas tree and then two goals waived off for the other team...that must give any beer league team awesome momentum but not the Oilers...of course...it's the Oilers.
The defense on two goals against were like a little deer called Bambi when it first discovered ice and didn't know that it's slippery...and then you have Skinner, but he wasn't our whipping boy today, the whole team were.
Don't fool yourself, this isn't our year until there will be some changes on the roster.

Schwartz is the guy that was showing them both how to improve. Somehow he has survived 4 GMs and about a dozen coaches….

The "f***ed his way to the top" rumour has to be true at this point. Anything else would be utter lunacy

There is absolutely no way everyone aged out at the same time

I mean, old man Perry is one of the only players producing...

Everyone knew our biggest weakness was goaltending and defense and Jackson goes out and signs 3 aging/injury prone forwards while letting 3 of our youngest (25, 23, 23) and fastest players go. Emberson, Dermott, Brown pickups all looking varying degrees of awful. Absolutely nothing done to address league worst goaltending. Offseason started with so much hope but what an abject failure.
