SKA Officially Terminates Matvei Michkov’s Contract - He’s Coming! upd: signs ELC on 7/1

I’m a Flyers fan too - live here.

Interesting, if you follow the Calder thread, there have been posts with analytical data and proof that Hutson is one of the worst if not the worst defensemen in the NHL on defense. Great offensive talent but he gets caved regularly, not really a way to debate it either way. I’m sure the guy will improve, but as of right now that’s factual data.

It’s easy to cherry pick data. Just sayin’. If you watch their games, you’ll see he’s fine defensively, for the most part.

It's 7 games left in the regular for the team. Given they play the last game on April, 17th, it's 7 games in 19 day or almost 1 game every 3 days, pretty relaxed schedule. I'm afraid Michkov can go on a rampage and destroy any chances to pick high...

Yeah honestly I think he’s gonna go the f*** off the rest of the regular season he’s making it look real easy at this point.

I am not sure how ''all the analytics show fact X'' is cherry-picking. Both things can be true - Hutson is insanely good offensively and is an exciting talent worthy of Calder discussion AND is garbage defensively (for now). What to do w this combo is then is up to coaches and Calder voters, but denying it is laughable.

Let’s see “all the analytics” being referred to. A poster saying that all the analytics show that is not evidence of same.

I don't know how the voting goes for NHL awards, but I feel like most people hate the Canadiens outside of MTL and I also feel like a lot of people probably recognize the restrictions of playing for a guy like Torts so I think MM has a good shot to win it.

Would be nice to see Michkov win the Calder.

That Montreal defenseman is racking up points, but only 5 of them are goals. That's a bit lopsided. I wonder how many of his assists are even primary assists.

Celebrini is playing for the worst team in the league. I don't think you can give it to him.

He’s a secondary assist merchant and plays very little defense that’s why if you view the Calder thread theres mass insecurity. They’ve even started going to the Michkov thread bc of it lol. I love this forum. We had a Habs fan pretending to be a Flyers fan in this thread trying to pump up their guy if you look above 😂😂😂.

It's been a long time since we've seen this level of wishcasting and e-voodoo to try and manifest results. The internet is healing.

I'd like to know what those metrics are because when I look at his defensive metrics, I don't see numbers that point to him being one of the worst defenseman in the NHL on defense. He's actually about average defensively and when you combine his offensive ability. You get a really good player who is just a rookie.

Hutson has 57 total assists. He has 24 first assists and 33 second assists. That hardly makes him a secondary assist merchant.

I think the disconnect here is the classic difference between Expected and Observed metrics. The options that divorce Goalie play all make him look passable defensively. Some (but not all) of the ones that don’t make him look poor. For example, Evolving Hockey has him at -4.1 Defensive Goals Above Replacement, but only -1 Expected DGAR.

He’s having an excellent season no matter how you want to slice it.

Honestly for some, not you, it's about false narratives, a lack of grasp on the facts and homerism. An example is headlicehatty replying with a laughing emoticon to facts that proved him wrong. He doesn't want to deal in facts. They disprove his narratives. The fact is that Hutson has had a great season, he is a really good offensive defenseman who is decent defensively. He is going to easily win the Calder. That doesn't take away from the season that Michkov has had but he's not going to win the Calder

Why are you on the Flyers board trying to convince Flyers fans how good Hutson is? No one cares about an undersized dman that plays zero defense. Why don’t you talk about him on the Montreal board?

Hutson is having one of the best offensive season's ever for a rookie defenseman (he has more points than Makar did at the same stage of their careers). It's loser shit trying to diminish his accomplishments to boost up our guy. He deserves the attention and is a worthy Calder candidate. It's a singular season award. Doesn't mean squat for the long term. I'd still take Celebrini and Michkov (and Makar!) over him long term.

I'd have to really look at it, but my impression is that I might have Jackson Blake above Michkov if I was voting today too.

I sure as shit don't have more optimism for his career, but that's not what the award is. It's just a measure of an arbitrary band of time. It means absolutely nothing. Forget it exists.

This is the extent of the logic you can offer. Instead of actually addressing the facts and position offered, you reply with this? LOL. Hutson was a topic of discussion. You yourself discussed him. Now you're asking why others are. Your comments lack common sense.

Just for the historical record, MM's slump started after the Dec 7th game, a 4-3 OT loss to Boston.

What happened? Nov 30th was the game TK swept the pass to MM for the OT breakaway winner. Afterwards, Torts said they would be doing things differently in OT. Fans may have loved TK and MM in OT, but Torts didn't.

Who started the Boston OT game? 27-8-6 of course, followed by 48-10-6, 25-86-6 and then 71-74-55. MM didn't see the ice at all after his 3 OT winners to start the season, Torts purposely went away from him.

How much did this nonsense affect his slump afterwards? Who knows for sure, but wouldn't you think your coach was an absolute moron if he did this?

Edit: Slump started two games later after Dec 7th

I wouldn't think that. I would know it. Tortorella is not a good coach. His time here was a complete waste of time.
