not one person here could have predicted that Torts would strip MM of what makes him special.

not one person...
It's not the first player that Torts has done this to. Look at Laine's numbers when he left Winnipeg for Columbus. Torts had him and his game went to ****. After one season with Tortorella, Laine's numbers improved. Torts would say that players like Laine and MM need to learn to play the game the right way; focus on their defensive responsibilities. Sure that may be true to a point but not to where it crushes their main skills on offense. And again, as we see with the current Flyers and past teams coached by him, the defense isn't so good.

What about MM potentially just being very tired? Last year he had 48 games in total, now it's not New Year's yet and he is at 33 games, in what is certainly faster and more physically demanding league. Don't get me wrong, I am not a Torts apologist, but...

If he's already tired by this point of the season, then he came here in terrible shape.

Fatigue is probably a factor so hopefully this mini-Christmas break helps.

The bigger factor though is the hilariously inept Powerplay, the antiquated North-South 5v5 system, and playing with selfish players like Tippett.

by the end of season MM wont even be top5..
There’s so much wrong with allowing a coach such as Tortorella to be around a talent like Michkov. Aside from other ways, his mind games are going to mess up this kid and it will take years for him to get over it. Great development. It’s why it’s best that the Flyers don’t get shiny toys; they’d only destroy them.

I wonder if missing out on the Calder -- which looks somewhat likely -- will sow animosity in Michkov against the FO.
That's what happens when your front office is literally built around the most disliked coach in the league.

"I've been fortunate enough to be welcome in the coach's office after games. I love it because I'm learning," Hilferty said. "Just watching the passion, watching [Jones and Briere] interact with Torts and the team. In the locker room, I was fortunate to go in there—I think I attended close to 60 games this year, including home and away, and every one of those games, I was fortunate to go to the locker room—win, lose, or draw—and just the love between those players and the folks that work there, from the equipment management up to the coaches, it's telling."
