not terrible for liljigren, considering he had no space for himself in toront.

Tough still think there's something there, he's a good skater and he has the ability to potentially become a top 4 guy. But unfortunately he was simply just beat out and the leafs need the cap space.

He's now 25, and sitting in the press box all year with guys like Timmins playing over him. Once Hakanpaa, Jarnkrok, and Dewar became healthy, we had no cap to facilitate him in the press box. So it makes sense to move him but have always liked the guy.

That being said - I think the leafs still need to move one more guy to activate the 3 IR guys

Man, that was a quick fall from grace. I can see why the Leafs wanted to re-shape the feel of their blueline. He was quite good analytically his first couple of seasons but as his usage went up, the effectiveness went down.

And he is just a big, wet fart in the post-season. He's just not a very playable blueliner in the playoffs - I think that is the biggest issue in Toronto, but that won't be a problem for the next couple of years in San Jose.

Good to end things cleanly

Could have gotten toxic

Lilijgren gets a shot to play and leafs get some picks and a guy who I think once injured Mcdavid (could be mistaking Benning(

Ultimately for the Leafs, this was a guy sitting in the press box eating up cap space. They didnt get much for him, but it might give them some options at the trade deadline they otherwise wouldn't have had.

For the Sharks - this is an easy win.

The issue is the Playoff Teams don't really need a $3 million depth DMan that is sitting out for the Leafs (who don't have that great a D core). The non-Playoff teams, sure worth a waiver, but 25 [young but not that young] and a UFA in 2026, and again, not so good that he's sitting out for the Leafs, means he's probably not in any long-term playoffs. A late pick, yeah, but I don't think anyone is sending, say a 3rd round pick just because he's 25 and a RHD.
A good reminder that I don't know anything.

Leafs got fleeced, Lily is worth more than that. Good skater and can move the puck, his mistakes/flaws are all coachable. Don't like this trade at all.
He showed brief flashes of being a top 4 defenceman but never found consistency despite being given ample opportunities over the last few years. He hasn't been worth his cap hit for a while now.

I hope he figures it out and I wish him well in San Jose.

Toronto loses here big time. I guess the cap crunch is real, with players coming back from LTIR.
