What is this stat? How many games one has to play to become an NHLer? How does one become a star? Serious question, because if someone told me almost 11% of 6th rounders become regular NHL players I wouldn't believe them.
NHLer defined as 200 NHL games played, and star is defined as >0.7 PPG for forwards and 0.5 PPG for defensemen over a career I believe by this chart.

not interested either a pick outright or to downgrade pick
not bad player, but not a fit and do not want
This is it right here.

Barabanov is a low key, quality player that is not only versatile up/down a lineup, but also productive.

I very much like him as a player. But, he’s not a natural Center that alleviates our biggest organization need (2C), nor does he really fit in our top 9 after this season, which we probably couldn’t afford given our short term cap crunch. In all honesty, nobody knows what to expect of him going forward. He hasn’t even played a full 82 game season yet.

Not to take anything away from him, but he’s a 27 year old undrafted winger who was traded for another undrafted winger in Soumela. Most of his goals that I’ve seen are him taking advantage of good opportunities, especially down low. I recall him a Kane having some nice goals before Kane was banished to hell.

Nobodies giving up a 1st for him. That’s not a knock on him. That’s just reality.

If someone is giving up a first for him, we are taking back a bad contract. I think that’s the only way it happens. I don’t know if the Rangers necessarily have a contract that fits that. EDM might be the best example (at least off the top of my head). Something like Kassian+1st for Barabanov.
