This is what I would be shooting for. Dickenson. 1st this year. 1st next year. This years 1st and 2026 1st should do it maybe a player or prospect for good measure.

The only teams I can see trading away their pick for player(s) are Chicago and Utah as they need adults and legit players. Seattle and Buffalo both are a mess and Seattle is in that mid-spot to generate interest with a trade, Buffalo bc they are like the EDM of old with a million top picks that don’t do anything.I'm totally making this up, but it kind of makes sense. The only way Darche, a brand new GM, is going to trade out of the #1 slot and not take the "safe" consensus #1 pick would be if he and the scouts think Hagens is going to be a really, really good player, and the business side of the team expresses a preference to draft the hometown kid and give him a pass to go make that happen and gather whatever additional assets he can get. Otherwise, I'm thinking it's Schaefer.
They’re hanging up and blocking your number. This is what I would be shooting for. Dickenson. 1st this year. 1st next year.
SJ has so many pieces that if the isles are reasonable and are also set on taking misa/hagens something realistic could get done .only if someone is going to overpay by a ton. It would be silly for SJ to overpay by much TBH
No way, late 1st rounders rarely turn into anything special, Schaefer is the only clear legit top prospect in this draft, as said a 2026 unprotected, or maybe a 2026 protected and a 2027 1stI think this is closer to correct. Not sure about the capdump, but two 1sts (albeit late rounders) seems about right.
I don't want to trade the #1 at all, and I want them to take Schaefer. So I don't disagree. But I also think Darche can ask for an outrageous return, but SJ won't do it. And no potential lottery team is going to trade an unprotected 2026 1st with a guy like McKenna available. That's a GM self-fire move.No way, late 1st rounders rarely turn into anything special, Schaefer is the only clear legit top prospect in this draft, as said a 2026 unprotected, or maybe a 2026 protected and a 2027 1st
I’m not giving up Schaefer unless it’s a haul. SJ is calling the isles here. Not the other way around. So you can hang up and block numbers all you want - you won’t get what you want. SJ should expect to have your wallet out. Dickinson with a switch of 1sts doesn’t do it for me. Islanders need top end skill. Enjoy Misa shark fans. They’re hanging up and blocking your number.
They are presumably calling with the idea of "hey if you don't see the tiers as significantly far apart or if you want to draft Hagens we can make it worth your while". You can just say "no thanks".I’m not giving up Schaefer unless it’s a haul. SJ is calling the isles here. Not the other way around. We're not doing "realistically" here I guess.Start with the 2026 unprotected first round pick. Add in at least another good prospect or two.
Besides McKenna being younger slightly, watching Canada at the U20s, Schaefer stood out more in the short 2 game viewing. And less than a year later we have McKenna with 1 goal in 5 games. I can only imagine, Schaefers U18 tournament , he still had the death of his Mom on his mind.On the flip side Mckenna had 20 points at the 2024 U18s, Hagens 22, Schaefer 5

I know 2 games at the U20s doesn’t make a career but he was the only guy on Canada that stood out for me.
Yes the Sharks would be approaching the Isles hat in hand. Darche has all the cards. SJ needs to blow him away to get Schaefer. Something doesn’t sit well with me when teams acquire top talent year after year by doing nothing but playing poorly and an organization purposely not trying to bring a competitive team to play. The hockey gods have spoken. Come draft day the Isles take Schaefer and begin their next cup run.I’m not giving up Schaefer unless it’s a haul. SJ is calling the isles here. Not the other way around. He didn’t even play two games, he barely played four periods. That’s exactly why I don’t understand why so many praise his U20’s performance and say he was by far the best player on team Canada. Much of the praise Schaefer gets is in limited game time which is still something I don’t understand and is something I have yet to see be acknowledged or said to be any concern at all.Besides McKenna being younger slightly, watching Canada at the U20s, Schaefer stood out more in the short 2 game viewing. He could yet turn out to be our next Rob Shremp so I hope everyone's prepared. He didn’t even play two games, he barely played four periods. IMO, there is no way a rookie GM is gonna come in and start Mike Milburying. He’s going to take the consensus pick 1OA and be safe and happy. The only teams I can see trading away their pick for player(s) are Chicago and Utah as they need adults and legit players. Seattle and Buffalo both are a mess and Seattle is in that mid-spot to generate interest with a trade, Buffalo bc they are like the EDM of old with a million top picks that don’t do anything.
The mushy middle of Nashville, Philly, Boston seem more ripe to make the pick vs trading it.
I don’t see Hagens lasting to Seattle. So, bye bye Barzal to Utah at 4 take Hagens for the PR win, take your $9M back and do something with it via trade or UFA.
I think it’s a case of San Jose (allegedly) showing their cards before the draft. So they have no leverage, they know that have to offer a lot if they truly have their hearts set on Schaefer. If Chicago gets in the mix, and wants the #1 pick, makes it even more expensive.Have you guys looked at what other teams have paid to move up one slot in the draft? it isnt a pile like some of you are suggesting. I understand the situation might be worth a significant premium, but anything more than a future 1st or a good prospect is just a pipe dream.
Plus, based on everything i've see, it's clear they have every intention of taking Schaefer #1. which I now believe is the correct move. You dont often have potential generational players fall into your lap. To paraphrase LL....If you have the chance, you take it.
Nothing another team might give you would be worth that (realistically you arent getting McDavid to move up 1 or 2 slots).
I don’t see this happening, the scouts have spoken, and they agree it’s Schafer by a country mile. Chasing a player because he’s an Islander fan over choosing the BAP signals to the league that nothing has changed and the franchise can’t be taken seriously. If they want Hagens work a trade but take Schafer at one.I'm totally making this up, but it kind of makes sense. It should get really interesting in 3 weeks time, a day or so before the draft, to see if teams get really desperate. Personally, I just want the Isles to draft Schaefer.
