Simon Edvinsson

Well I'm glad he's getting fighting lessons from someone. Not much of a tilt, but he does a lot of things right:
- He dropped the gloves at the same time to avoid an instigator penalty
- First thing he does is pull Brady's helmet off
- As a taller player, he grabbed the front of the jersey as he should because that utilizes his reach advantage. (Note that with Kasper I said he should be reaching for pad or back collar.)
Brady's a strong kid, so not surprising he got pulled down. Instead of trying to pull the shirt up, Ed could've gave him some jabs with the left. Obviously need to learn to free up the arm before trying to throw a punch.

I've been really impressed by Simon's understanding of the importance of the physical/nasty side of the game.

It's something Seider needs to reincorporate into his game. Seider and Edvinsson need to bully opposition forwards more going forward. It's something Mo was so good at in the AHL and SHL it's been disappointing how timid he's played at the nhl level.

How much “bullying” did Lidstrom do? How about Makar? Werenski? I think we just need Dmen who are actually good at defending and can put up points. That would be cool.

and do we have a makar or Lidstrom on our roster? No we have two guys physical freaks that should be abusing the opposition. What a stupid comment. Because I would have guessed that you'd want guys who dont put up points and cant defend.

Lol lists 2 of the most skilled dmen of all time as if it makes a point somehow.

How much bullying did Stevens, Pronger, Weber, Shore, Potvin etc do?

More than one way to skin a cat and Detroits team is built in a way that theyre going to have to lean into the physical side of the game if they want to win

Seems to be that Edvinsson reached 3 bonus A categories at season 2024-25.

- Top4 in ice-time versus defencemen teammates. (3rd most 21:07min)
- Top3 mong defencemen in plusminus (best of team with +12)
- Top2 in blocked shots of team defencemen (2nd most, 144 total blocks, 2 more than Chiarot)

His A level bonuses for each category were valued 212.5k of each = total 637.5k in bonuses.

Edvinsson was also short by only 1 assist to reach 25 assists for 4th possible bonus category.

So his total earnings for this season was 894.167k base salary + 637.5k = 1.532 million.

Well earned. Thankfully they didn't rush him last year so he could be solid this year.

I think many of us take for granted how good edvinsson has been this year, he has essentially been a rookie, with only 30 games played in his career before this season. He’s gonna end the season around 30 points with basically no PP time. Another year of muscle development and understanding the game and I don’t think it’s crazy if he has 40 points next year. He’s one of the best 5v5 point producers for defenseman in the league.
I’d assume most of us watch most of his games and recognize him as a top pairing (top 64) defenseman in his “rookie” year with his potential to be a top 10 guy down the road.

So assuming that, I don’t know how many of us take him for granted.

Obviously would’ve been better for him to get more time last year so this year wouldn’t be a transition year but rather a playoff building year.
Edvinsson was one of the last reasons we didn't make it this year, so short of thinking he could have been a Norris contender if he played a bit more last season I'm not sure what would have changed.

Johansson is probably the guy one could wonder about, maybe throwing him 10-20 games at the end of last season could have helped him get going faster this year.
