Looking at the 2021 draft, it sure does look like Yzerman maximized pick value just like he did with Seider/Raymond.

Between pick 5 (Johnson) and pick 23 (Johnston) I'm not sure there's any 2 players I'd rather have in the organization than Edvinsson and Cossa right now.

Draft reactions were funny. I really wanted Eklund as did many others.

I think many of us take for granted how good edvinsson has been this year, he has essentially been a rookie, with only 30 games played in his career before this season. He’s gonna end the season around 30 points with basically no PP time. Another year of muscle development and understanding the game and I don’t think it’s crazy if he has 40 points next year. He’s one of the best 5v5 point producers for defenseman in the league.

The hope is the awful signings for guys like Chiarot, Holl, Gustafsson, and Petry will be a thing of the past now that we've got Seider, Ed, Johansson and likely Wallinder and ASP joining the club next season. We spent over $12 million this season on blue liners who are OK but nothing great. Mo, Ed and ASP should all be legit great and Mo is the only guy getting paid big bucks.

Yzerman needs to lock him up longterm ASAP give him a huge signing bonus try and convince him to be in the 8-9 range use that Carolina signings crap if we caN before the next cba takes it out and give him like 5-750k a yr when he turns 40 or whatever it was that player did to bring down the cap to like 8.25 x8 or whatever

Give johansson 25 mill for 8 yrs and throw 5 mill signing bonus , use Carolina model .. rather not lose him later on and sign another holl . Kasper etc.. time to identity who’s a key piece going on and lock them up and potentially good deals so we can then if we wanted to we can give say k Conner 50 mill for 4 yrs ... don’t think he’s worth the money but I don’t want to give someone crazy money for 8 yrs unless it’s a bonafied superstar with pellikka etc.. coming up

k connor 25m a year? lmaooo

He is a difference maker 5 on 5. The fact that he is likely to hit 30 points with no PP time as a rookie is remarkable. I felt his floor was Jaybo kinda dman and he is already hitting that floor in year 1. He's a guy I could see easily getting 25 min a night in his prime, and being the perfect partner for a more free wheeling guy.

He needs to work on his D a bit overall and his puck handling down low in the d zone. He tends to have a case of the bumbles for like 10 games or so before going back to normal. I also think Stevie should do everything he can to lock this guy up long term this off season. Then we can hopefully see him on the PP.

Wouldn't mind seeing him and ASP be a PP point team at some point. ASP likes to rover a bit so having a dman back probably wouldn't be a bad idea.

Edvinsson had 4 hits last night and actually fought Brady. One of the only guys to show fight and physicality against a team that always tries to get under our skin. Is there an argument to be made that a serious loser culture has been instilled? A lot of the other guys were sulking in a game like this. Maybe that will happen to edvinsson too if we continue like this for years…point is we need more guys like what Ed did last night. It’s a serious issue for this team.

I think so. Third straight year of the same thing. Coach been changed too. Larkin needs to be on the hot seat given he is the captain and has honestly never shown any leadership qualities. At the very least the C should be stripped from him.

There are a few guys I don't worry about in games like last night... Kasper, Debrincat, Seider and Edvinsson and that's about it. Watson looked like he wanted to mix it up but he's too slow to keep up and he is basically a warm body they have thrown in. Some guys on the team definitely shrink when things start getting chippy, which I think will be addressed this off season.

Yzerman did not say much in his last media availability but he did mention how teams use to leave Detroit in worse shape than showing up and how it was a tough place to play. He also said he thinks that style of play isn't going anywhere and that 4 Nations was an example... hope he remembers these games gome July 1st.

Detroit is, at its heart, a blue collar city. If Dylan is bringing the Birmingham vibes that probably isn't sitting well with Yzerman.

So if you look at this averaged across 72 games so far that'd put seider at about 185 powerplay minutes and that is with the top unit. My problem with this is he only has 39 points. Edvinsson meanwhile has 30 points and almost no powerplay time (until recently). I really thing going into next season this team needs to acknowledge Edvinsson potential and try him on the top pp over seider. I think ed shows a lot more poise on the pp, does quicker passes and unlike seider, he actually shoots the puck. It'd be interesting to see how many more points ed could have with that kind of pp time??

If they could use the defensemen in our top with a certain type of usage, it could take off the wear from Seider and he can just be a brute defensively and not carry around a Chiarot-type player all the time whilst also not heavily expected to generate offense. This includes adding a proper top 4 LHD that thrives in defensive usages

Seider: Hard defensive minutes with ideally a suitable partner - 1st pair, #1PK

Edvinsson: Moderately hard defensive minutes, PP skill usage - 1st/2nd pair - #2PP - #1/2PK

Sandin-Pellikka: Lesser ES matchups, but heavy PP1 reliance - 2nd pair - #1PP

Other LHD: Moderately hard defensive usage - 1st/2nd pair - #1/2PK
