Line Combos: Simon Benoit is an AHLer

I've actually liked him since we traded Timmins.
Hes had a good moment or two but hes had a lot of glaring mistakes seems to get a pass for some reason though Hes the only Dman I’ll argue that has been worst than rielly

Timmins has 1G 2A +7 in 4 games with PIT so far, which obviously isn't sustainable but maybe some day the Benoit boosters will look back and realize that Timmins wasn't actually the problem on that pair. Case in point:
Timmins was so bad defensively. Benoit has had a rough season, but I’ve liked his game more since leaving that pair. He’s a sixth D, I don’t expect Tanev, and I’ll stick to my view he’s been better of late overall.

Timmins is definitely horrible defensively

Yeah, our 6-7 is rough. Probably weaker than we'd like, but it is what it is at this point. Have to find a way to have success with it, like they did tonight.

Benny played a team low 14:16 tonight.

His defense on the one LA goal tonight was bad.

Sure, it's one play and he's a number six, but one goal can cost you a game or a series when games are close in the playoffs. I don't feel too comfortable with this guy on the ice.
He’s not a legit 6 hes a 6 if he’s right handed or can play his off wing with oel that guys a 7

He got walked but so do other dmen. Still like him in our lineup when we have to face a team like Florida but I'd like to see what Myers and OEL on his strong side bring. OEL's physicality has been a pleasant surprise.

I probably should preface this post by saying that I don't agree with the reasoning I'm about to lay out, but I think this might be what the team's reasoning is nonetheless.

The reason why Benoit hasn't been coming out of the lineup for Myers is because of the PK. The PK pairs on the team are McCabe-Tanev and Benoit-Carlo. The coaching staff probably likes that L-R balance on both PK pairs.

And based on the lack of shorthanded ice time for the other dmen on the team this season, it doesn't seem like any of Myers/OEL/Rielly are trusted enough to take over Benoit's PK role should they scratch him for Myers.

I think the more realistic change that could happen to the D pairs is a reshuffling rather than Myers coming in for Benoit:

Rielly-Carlo
OEL-Tanev
Benoit-McCabe
