I can’t argue with you. Both would be excellent picks.

I just like the snap of Iginla’s game. You can see that he would be effective playing intense hockey against heavy teams.
I haven't watched a ton of Iginla, but every time I watch him I feel like I'm watching his dad. His skating style, etc... bear an uncanny resemblence to his father.

Might as well vote other, Habs seem to be really interested in Beckett Sennecke (although I really hope it's not with our first pick) .
He would be a very nice add. I'd love to see Hughes package Winnipeg's pick, an excess Dman and another pick, to move into the mid-first round (13- 16) if possible.

His knee injury is concerning (Demidov) but man what I'd do to have a player of his ilk on our team, he's so damn talented. IMO the adoration once held from the Bell Centre crowd for Kovalev would pale in comparison after witnessing him entertain, he'd have them out of their seats nightly.

Marner getting flack over playoff success when he's been great in the past 2 games while Matthews is out with an ''illness'' is crazy to me. He's still been one of Toronto's most dangerous forwards in the 1st round. Matthews is getting no talk when he should be getting all of it.
His first year in the playoffs he was amazing, blocking shots and being a pest. He needs to learn from Marchand in my opinion because he can be better than him.

He is very much like his dad in the corners, he’s amazing at creating space with his body - admittedly I’ve only watched a few playoff games and highlights…

He's quicker than his father.

Hughes will be judged as much for what he does with the Winnipeg pick as what he does with the 5 OA pick.

Nothing to do with size

Can you talk to me about Auston Matthews and Joe Thornton play in the playoffs....

Actually Marner has even a bit more sucess than Matthews in the playoffs imagine.

It is so easy to bring everything about size but history is clear...some of the best players in NHL history in the playoffs were not physical beast

St Louis
Sakic
Kucherov
Yzerman
Naslund
Fleury
And last year’s Conn Smythe winner.

One player can't do everything. Todays fans tends to forget this is a team sport. What the other lines are doing? Nothing cuz the Conn Smythe will do everything?

I hope in Mtl we will not become Leafs fans 2.0.
And pretend we are the mecca of hockey.

I hope Demidov will not be available. If he's available and Habs picks Iginla like I want, we'll have the same psycho drama of last year when we didn't picked Michkov. Demidov is a smart and overall skilled player but he's also small. NHL is the place for stronger and bigger players. Iginla was raised in NA and will be a better fit for the Habs, a big hockey market. Wright, Michkov and Demidov are smallish players and I'm not crazy about smallish players. I'm happy Habs picked Slaf 2 years ago.

IMO If Demidov is available and his knee injury isn't overly concerning, the habs management would deserve the scorn by taking Iginla over him.

Demidov > Michkov and by far the greater talent over Iginla with a ton more upside.

I like Iginla I totally get the fit, but it seems to me he's getting overratted around here and being confused with his father.

They're taking Demidov if he's there.

Yeah, Id be shocked if they didn't. He has the compete, the smarts and the skill. The Rangers did everything to try to get Pettersson for the same reasons.

Picking a player with a knee injury is typical Timmins. I was thinking this was over.

I'd say players of Demidovs profile is exactly who Timmins never picked. The one time he did, he took a guy who wanted to be a mobster.

Timmins never picked top talent and neither second tier talents. I would have feel okay if he picked Henrique or Zajac but no he didn't. Neither he picked a defensive specialist like Danault. Habs went with Koivu and Pleks picked decades before he came in. We had those two centers way over their 30's and nobody else in the system.

Your draft board is gonna be pretty bare if you don't take players who had an injury at some point.
We have to play safe with those type of injuries. And we have to look at the character of the player too. Montreal is a big and tough market.

Those are things this administration has taken into account. In fact they were big drivers as to why they took Slaf and Reinbacher.

If they have a chance to draft Demidov and take him. Its beyond clear they feel good about his injury and his character.

We have to be very careful with Iginla...

He is NOT his father, he is his own person, and must be drafted based on that alone.

For sure. And I think the, scouting team, including Hughes and Gorton will suss that out.

I think Hughes and Gorton take this pick pick very seriously. I think they know this might be our last chance to get top 5 talent at the draft during their regime. And we we need to hit on th as t top 5 talent.

Some here are still complaining over the Mesar pick.

on the one hand, I'm a bit annoyed by the pick.

On the other hand, let's be realistic, scouts can't hit on every pick. The most important thing that draft was to get 1st overall right in a non consensus year, and Slaf is looking much better than Wright so far. Then the scouting team goes out and get Lane Freakin Hutson. Plus there's Engstrom and Beck. It could be an all time great draft. People have to accept there will be flops, even in the 1st round. And we're not even sure what Mesar will be yet.

Even Dallas picks Heiskanen over Makar, or Dellandrea in the top 20.

There's no rebuilding team that didn't miss on a pick. Even the Hawks dynasty had Cam Barker. Tampa took Drouin at 3 and Connelly top 6.
