I once had a girl go into an astrology rant and I let her do her ******** spiel. These are the trade offs you have to make with women sometimes, you have to pretend to be interested in some topic you care nothing about.

Anyways she tries to base our entire compatibility based on this stuff, finally she asks me what I think, and I say I don't see how my DOB has anything to do with my personality or whether we are compatible.

and you know her ****ing response?
"Of course you don't, you're a capricorn"

Floored. She had completely mind ****ed me, and you know the worst part? I was stuck in a car with her for another 3 hours after this(don't ever let a woman drive you anywhere)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that paper (which deals with heuristic strategy in a laboratory environment) was not at all intended to address the biases inherent in thinking back informally on past experiences. The inaccuracy of long-term memory, including that aspect of confirmation bias, is extremely well documented. There have even been papers written about it more recently than 1987.

Anyway, astrology is literally based on the notion that you can predict the future by drawing a map to show the ways in which the heavenly bodies which are immediately visible in the night sky are constantly exerting their influence over the four elements of the earth. It's a system designed by Egyptians and Babylonians that is crazypants in the context of basic scientific knowledge. It's not wrong to say people practicing it seriously are completely out to lunch.
