Shoulder pads

I'm looking for some new ones... got any suggestions? I'm trying to find something that isn't too bulky but still does it's job well.


I'm playing Midget rep B hockey and high school hockey... so right now I'm on the ice about 4-5 times a week on average. I'm gonna start worrying about the price after I see what's out there, so don't take that into account if you're willing to help ;).

Right now I've got some Warrior Hitmans which are starting to fall apart:

You need to specify your needs a little more, or you'll simply get what people are wearing at the moment. What kind of hockey are you playing? Frequency? Any features you're looking for? Price range?

You need to help us out a bit more before we can help you out.

OK, I added a little more detail to the OP.

To be honest, I'm open to all suggestions... just want to see what's out there.

I'm going to put a vote in for these as well, I have the U+ Pros and they are quite low profile. If you take a closer look, many NHL players are using this pad this season, since they have NHL=certified shoulder caps.

Other than that, another slim option could be the Warrior Projekt (also NHL-cert). Not as much coverage as the U+Pros, but a bit better mobility.
 
i can't remember the model but RKB and joba have a really nice set out

simple and great
 
If you don't want bulk, especially with the shoulder caps, don't go for RBK or Jofa*

I use the reebok 10k. Not as good as the old blu/white jofas, but they're good enough. They sure are more bulk than Bauer for an example, which I have used too. Both are good pads though
 
Midget B isn't going to be as physical as A, AA or let alone AAA... but you obviously need to protect yourself.

I'd personally error to the side of mobility, and make sure you have better pants, shins & elbows than worry as much about shoulder pads, as long as it has a decent chest protector for shots and caps...

I personally will say that those CCM shoulder pads offer a nice low profile for visibility and they are not very restrictive... light in fact

the RBK 9k & 11k, TotalOne, X60 are really light as well

However I personally would still rock something like the 9950 and if I needed more, perhaps the Nike Pro-Defenders
 
I'm still really happy with my Reebok 4k KFS pads. The new 5k are pretty similar. $60 new and plenty of protection including chest and spine. The 7k on up has more protection and a similar design.

What I really like about them is the separate shoulder and core pads. Every other shoulder pad I used was one piece which slid around while playing or slid up on my neck when taking draws. The Reeboks stay on the core and twist with your shoulders but don't slide around. Don't ever notice them on the ice because of that and they breathe pretty well too.
 
Sherwood 5030's. Best shoulder pads I've ever worn. More mobility and quite honestly you don't need anything more. Plus they are only like 30 bucks.
 
Playing a higher level I'd step it up from those though. The 5030's were my 2nd favorite shoulder pads but I wanted some chest and spine protection. And honestly the 4k's are just as mobile IMO. The 9950 shoulders are nice looking too. Just not for any league with slappers and any kind of physical play in the crease/corners.

same... I have those too, but I wouldn't try stopping a puck or risk getting boreded in them in a full contact game.

the 9950's aren't much better, but I HATE the size of Warrior Pads and honestly they aren't necessary.

The farrel pads are much heavier than what I thought they'd be, and the caps aren't very durable...

I say again, its worth spending the extra to get light shoulder pads that have good protection...

CCM U+ pro CL, S19, TotalOnes, X60, RBK 9/11K

top of the line doesn't mean mobile or light... I had a set of One95's that weighed a ton, and I hated them.

I use the 5030's cause I don't play full contact, mobile, cheap, and heck half the time I don't even wear them.

I'll put in a third recommendation for CCM shoulder pads. I tried on a lot of different ones and the U+Fit 09 were the best. The protection is high, they are very low profile (even lower than Sherwood 5030s that I had before that), and they don't restrict movement at all. If you need pro level protection then go with the U+ Pro, but I found the 09's to be very similar and $30 cheaper.

Also I wash my shoulder pads about once a month and these have not fallen apart at all. I have had them for about a year and I play 2-3 times per week.
 
I'm looking to switch shin/shoulder/elbow pads as well. I got the Warriors Koncept series, but it's way too bulky and anytime I put on a slightly tight jersey it starts jamming up against my velcros, ripping them right off.
