Should we try JMFJ as a winger?

JJ plays the toughest opponents on the other team and is usually the player we rely on most with minutes on the back end. Although it isn't as much as it was last year (30+ minutes a night), it's still apparent. The more you're on the ice the more likely you will be scored on or scored for, but given our slow start and lack of offense early, it's bound to be ugly for everyone not just Jack. I know some are plus players, but there are also alot of minus'. But I still consider it the worst stat in the sport.

Didn't see the first period last night, so that might be the case. I am probably wrong about the 2 glaring mstakes, but only two come to my mind right now.

I'm with you, I don't think Johnson has been that bad, Wiz, Nikitin, Tyutin and Savard have all been worse. I would like to see Erixon come up and have Savard go down and get his mojo back, he started strong and has trailed off a bit. Prout needs to play, he's very good at times and will regain his form of last season if he can work through it.

GMJK has repeatedly said we are always looking to improve the roster. So let's ask the question would it improve the roster. and the obvious answer is we can't really be sure unless we try it. However as has been mentioned in several posts the very act of trying it could prove to be detrimental.

#YOLO is no way to run a hockey team.

Did seriously need a sarcasm smile? Wow, just wow. I happen to be someone who's been very supportive of JJ. I didn't think I needed an emoticon after including RJ in my post.

:) I'm sorry, I suspected as much, but how it gest when the extremist drive the content when we go on losing streaks.

Wanted to address someone who brought up Johnson playing with Doughty. Beyond the fact that Doughty isn't "godawful" defensively, Johnson RARELY played with Doughty. Johnson played with Scuderi. And yes, Johnson was still terrible defensively. And yes, we independently contemplated the idea of trying him out as a winger.

Throughout his career, he's been flanked by guys like Drew Doughty and James Wisniewski; who are both pretty well worthless defensively. What that's meant for him is inflated minutes and exposed weaknesses.
Lol.

First of all, Johnson and Doughy weren't a pair and rarely played together.

Second of all Doughty is a career +21. While being paired against the opposing teams top forward every night. Johnson is a career -101 playing in his teams second pairing in LA and Columbus

It's not Doughty is worthless defensively

Wow, you really have no clue. Doughty is no where near worthless defensively. Secondly, Johnson spent most of his time playing with defensive d-men Matt Greene, Willie Mitchell and Rob Scuderi.

Thanks for the insight guys, although you're just a few weeks late to the discussion. Let's just let this bad idea die.

He's always been placed out of his element, in my opinion. I don't think he's that bad of a defender; but what he is and will always be is a physical, ideally 2nd pairing defenseman, who is best paired with a competent defensive minded defenseman.

Throughout his career, he's been flanked by guys like Drew Doughty and James Wisniewski; who are both pretty well worthless defensively. What that's meant for him is inflated minutes and exposed weaknesses. When he played with Dalton Prout last year, the pair was very good because they worked well together. Johnson was able to chip in his offense and play a bit of a roving game; while Prout was the stay at home guy who kept opponents honest.

You people are ridiculous ... two years ago when we acquired Jack Johnson, the feeling was electric - a guy who wanted to play here and made an immediate impact in the locker room. His efforts on defense were immediately contagious and a big part of our turn-around last year. Now, 16 games into the next season, and it's either move him to forward, scratch him, or trade him.

You don't build success by dealing away or alienating competitive guys who want to play for your team.

Johnson was rarely paired with Doughty who is great defensively BTW. Johnson was always paired with a stay at home type because that's how Lombardi's teams are assembled. Johnson never showed much improvement in his own zone and Kings fans often thought it wouldn't hurt to try him at LW.

JJ's taking on the top opposition for Columbus, has been almost his whole time here.
