Except that the supposed scapegoat being discussed has a huge cap hit, on a long term, and produces like a fourth liner. You don't find any of that concerning?

Said it a thousand times, and I'll say it 1,001: The contract was his reward for sticking with the team when the team was absolute stinking garbage. It's for past performance, not current and future. So we have a big cap hit for a player who is not currently "producing," tell me what team doesn't have the same situation? He may not be potting goals but I think it will happen soon enough.

To answer your question, no. I am not concerned.

He's not.

It's just been my observation that Brown's biggest critics tend to be people who were big Mike Richards fans, which I find to be a bit hypocritical.

Hypocritical? Richards was held accountable for his crappy play while players like Stoll/Williams/Brown were spoon fed power play time and Richards was still out playing those guys on any given night.

Moving forward I thought accountability was the new mantra around the Kings. Stoll and Williams were held accountable this last off season and shipped out. The only one that is left is Brown. I guess his wake up call came in the Lucic trade. Lucic is blowing Brown out of the water, and he's bigger too!

Came here to post that Brown is exactly what is wrong with looking at fancy possession stats when it comes to the Kings. This is how they led the league in possession while missing the playoffs. Large numbers of low % shots pad the stats while not being overly difficult to defend. Thanks Brown for making such a clear example. :shakehead

I do hope Brown is able to generate some offense at some point, or Lombardi isn't going to be able to move him. Kings have a bunch of wingers and are wasting 6M on Brown. Lombardi could swap Brown for Phaneuf straight up and the team would be better off. Hell Dion has 5 more assists then Brown. Even if you don't like Phaneuf it's hard to argue the team wouldn't be better off.

The only downside is being forced to go to the bargain bin with the 3C and Defense. Pacific is garbage this year so even Sutter should be able to limp into the playoffs. Lombardi's just going to need to address those positions with limited cap space is all.

The bolded is absolute garbage.

Given the Kings and their cap situation with some big extensions coming up over the next couple of seasons, Brown's big cap hit will be a significant concern.

The Kings are feeling the cap crunch, and the inefficient performance from their captain has put the team in a bind. They hardly have room to make improvements and they lost a better winger in Justin Williams due to cap implications.

We'll see as the season progresses what cuts the Kings have to make so they can overpay Kopitar...since we know they won't be cutting weak ass Brown and his "Thank You" contract.

What do you not understand about Lombardi thanking Brownie for his past contract??? Brownie showed great character and leadership by taking a home town discount in the past, and Lombardi basically thanked him with the new contract.

I guess he should also thank Kopitar for 2012 and 2014 by giving him a ludicrous contract as well since apparently players are going to get retirement contracts for what they accomplished in the past.

Too bad he couldn't give a thank you contract to Williams and Mitchell as well eh?

These lame ass excuses justifying Brown's contract are laughable. It's a bad contract for a sever key depreciating player.

You guys would be laughing if another team was spending that kind of money for a player who produces like a fourth line plug.

Yeah.

Let's just go ahead and **** our players for the sacrifices they made over their careers to stick it out with this team. That should give us a GREAT reputation at retaining and recruiting free agents in the future.

It didn't stop them in the past. Remember how they treated Rob Blake and Luc Robitaille back in 2001?

But hey, some fans have selective memories.

Simply, not true.

Yes those lame-brained moves did hurt us. Who the **** wanted to come here after that anyway? They all went to Detroit. There were no CAP issues in those days.

But hey, some fans have selective memories.

They were examples of players who spent a lot of crappy years with a terrible team that was horribly mismanaged, went through numerous ownership changes, a bankruptcy, played with a cast of minor league scrubs, coaches, etc.

And when it came time to reward them with contracts, did the organization oblige for their loyalty and their past achievements? Nope.

And we all know how much Blake is vilified for supposedly being disloyal to the organization.

Brown wasn't paid for any of the past accomplishments, he was going to be UFA, and Deano shot his wad thinking we'd get more of the Brown we saw in the 2012 playoffs.

You know how we all have a laugh over terrible contracts like the Clarkson or Bickell deals? That's what Dustin Brown has become, a laughably terrible contract for a player who is barely worth the paper he signed his name on.

I think Clarkson only has 1 assist so far. At least Brown is still better then him. :naughty:

That's some kind of bizarre personal agenda you're peddling, because these situations have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Richards had a bad contract and sucked. Now Brown has a bad contract and sucks. The similarities end there.

The two groups are not mutually exclusive. Since Richards isn't around anymore, some of the same posters have moved on to Brown.

Are you suggesting the Kings go back to how the team was managed in 2001?

Jagr still and incredible one-on-one player.

Dustin Brown isn't even in the same universe as future HOFer Jaromir Jagr. Why even bring him up? Brown at his peak wasn't even as good as Jagr is right now.

Yeah.

They're professionals who get paid to play a sport. Spare us the sob story of poor Dustin Brown.

That really sticks out, you'd think a puck would hit a body part and bounce in...he's usually near the net.

I thought he'd have success this year being put back in a position to succeed, where he did in the past, on the top line with finishers. And I still think he will. Part of that is his linemates, Kopi has 4 pts in 12 games and Gabby's been brutal, only 2 pts. are not playing up to par and that's tied to his numbers. The 18 Million dollar line isn't producing like one.
He's part of a line that is struggling. WHen they get going, he'll be a part of that. And the goals will come

he he love this; he has 4 goals and would have more points if "manos de piedra" knew how to score a goal.

I think a lot has to do with Kopitar too. When was the last time you Kopitar set up Brown or Gabby with a good pass in a scoring area? He seems to be content with parking his ass on the wall and trying to set up the offense from there. The best passer on that line this season has been Brown, doing all the work Kopitar should be doing.

We are not watching the same games
