Should we give the Leafs more props after seeing what Florida is doing to Carolina?

Carolina easily blitzed the Metro and Florida is blitzing them, Florida also blitzed the Lightning in 5 who were looking good this year.

The Leafs put in a hard fought series and made Florida struggle by taking them to 7. The Leafs also won their first round series against Ottawa in a fair fashion, and Ottawa was looking pretty hot prior to getting into playoffs

I see some unfair criticism of the Leafs. Florida is about to go to their third straight SCF and I think most likely will win a cup. You can’t fault the Leafs for meeting them in round 2. It may turn out the Leafs were the second best team of the playoffs but just had to play their divisional rival due to the structure of the playoffs

Anyway, do you give the Leafs more props? They are a very good team that was beaten by the best. No reason to just fire everyone and get rid of Marner.

Meh... I don't think they deserve any props for the way they ended the series.

They're a good team. They showed that this season with 108 points. I never thought FLA would beat them easily in the series (despite what some were saying). They were competitive through four games and then imploded in the last two home games. Losing in seven against FLA is nothing to be ashamed of and isn't a choke, but the way they played in games five and seven was humiliating. They're better than that and should have gone down fighting if they weren't going to be able to pull off the series win.

Their best chance was winning Game Three. Had they done that, I think they would have taken the series in six (if not sooner). If games three and seven had been reversed, the series would look a lot better for Maple Leafs.

Yeah, that's just disingenuous or ignorant.

Teams like BOS, TB and FLA will tell you they're not an easy out.

They win games and I'm sure they make opposing teams' fans sweat at times.

Are they winners? No. But they're decent adversaries who won't give you an easy series win. That's more than can be said about a lot of other teams, to be honest.

If had happened in a vacuum, then sure, though I think any rationalization exercise for losing short of catastrophic injury is pretty meaningless.

The Leafs core players are being criticized because they have lost in similar fashion so many times.

No. Once the Panthers woke up and locked in, Leafs lost 4/5. Two games were 6-1 routs in Toronto. Play that series again right now Leafs don't fare better than Carolina. Panthers are simply the best team we have seen since the Kane/Toews Hawks. To be this good in the salary cap era is remarkable.

They just had their best season since 2002. My son was born after that. He's in Vegas legally partying right now.

Let their fans enjoy it. No need to be a party pooper. Especially as the team and the cap situation and likely Marner's departure and aging of their older players, this might be the best season many Leafs' fans will see in their lifetime. Let them discuss it and have their fun.
