Sorry but I have to ask...have you ever actually played goal? I have for 13+ years now. I still see a lot of holes in Quick's game that have been there from the start that haven't improved. I'm not sure whether to blame that on Quick or Ranford but it's kinda sad they haven't been fixed.
Look...I'm not trying to sit here and bash Quick. I absolutely love him. I would just ALWAYS rather have a fundamentally strong one over one that relies on his athletics. Bernier to me is going to be a star once he's traded. He is so fundamentally strong that he's really going to be a big asset to whatever team lands him.
Bernier is plenty athletic - obviously not Quick athletic but it's there. The thing is it's not his style to be like Quick. He doesn't rely on athleticism. He uses his positioning, angles, and save selection. Have you ever noticed that Quick goes down on every shot and Bernier doesn't? It's because Bernier can read when a shots going high and thus doesn't drop.
And yes, while Quick has gotten better there, he's still the single worst puck handling goalie I've ever seen in the NHL and he still does have holes in his game that are very fixable and would go a long way to making him probably the best goalie in the NHL.
