Should the NHL use the NBA's restricted free agency system?

I would like buy outs not countinv against the cap or some way in which you can get out of a terrible contract. Maybe soke sort of arrbitration system where you can argue in front of a judge that the player is no longer worth thr contract he signed.

For example team A signs player X to a 8 year 80 million dollar deal. The season prior to the signing player X had 100 points. By year 3 the player has yet to reach 50 points again. Team A should be able to go in front of a judge and plead why they feel the player is no longer worthy of that salary.

Small market teams wouldn't like that, because rich teams could keep giving out bad contracts and just pay their way out of it without cap implications.

Well it could help small market teams too. Plus There is already enough rules big market teams arent fond of that help small market teams.

EDIT: also i dont see how signing bad contracts just to buy them out would benefit any team really. I doubt big market teams would sign contracts expecting them not to work hust to buy then out

Why would we want an NHL where there's two or three playoff caliber teams? The NBA is the least competitive league on the planet.

Last year's NBA playoffs had 5 of 8 series going to game 7 in the first round including both of the 8 vs. 1 seed match ups.

In the past if some NHL General Managers were upset at when their RFA's were given an offer sheet and choose to sign them, even though they get some composition if they decide not to match it. Can you imagine how things would be if they used the NBA model where they get nothing if they decide not to match it.

Im sure the Oilers and Sabres would go to 7 games if they currently met in the playoffs. Game 7's doesn't mean that the league is competitive.

How would it help small market teams?

No team signs contracts expecting to buy them out, but if the ability is there, rich teams can use it while poor teams cant. It would be a cap loophole that only the rich could exploit.

Giving teams the opportunity to have a do-over will just cause the rich teams to be less careful in the summer signing season. Right now there are cap implications, so rich teams cant just buy themselves out of bad decisions.

Baseball needs the restricted free agency system. Free agency in baseball is mostly useless because when players become free agents, they only have 2 years left in their prime at most. Most of them are already 29-30 when they hit the market.

Well if a team views a contracg bad they will buy it out. Look at Arizona and Riberio.

Also yes this rule helps the richer teams more then the cap ones, however there are maybe 4 teams that have a true financial advantage then come the middle pack and then the "poor" teams.

My idea involves an arbitrator/judge, so its not like a team could buy out a player just cause theyd have to prove why they will they should be aloud

At the end of the day there are few teams who will get financial freedom from ownership to keep buying out players. This isnt some scam where you over pay players then buy them out. What im suggesting is the ability to buy out players who no longer are worthy out what they once were. For example if my idea works it wont mean that if you gavr tanner glass 8 mill a year for 7 years you can turn back the second year becausr you reaslize you made a mistake. Its like mike richards where the player is simply not the same anymore
