Should the NHL keep the rivalry schedule for the future of NHL schedules over an 82 game season (less travel and better for players, more chances of a rivalry better for fans)?

I vote yes for the reasons above. it'll be great once fans can come back in the building for these rivalry games.

I don't think you'd see them go away from playing all teams cause there is $$ in having stars visit each team...but I could definitely see a scenario where you get more mini-series like we will get this year that will create playoff like atmospheres while also saving $$ on travel expenses. sort of a hybrid of the old and new

A conversation I once had with a friend:

Them: "Wanna do something today?"

Me: "No, Liverpool's on."

Them: "So? It's one game."

Me: "We're playing Manchester Untied."

Them: "Ok..."

Me: "Would you ask me to do something on Christmas?"

Them: "well, no..."

Me: "Well this is more important than Christmas."

The moral of the story is, rivalries are worse with a lot of intimacy.

Hockey obliviously has a different schedule but I would go 4 the most.

sorry but this is a terrible analogy for most americans...a soccer game is as important to you as christmas, does that mean you are jewish and don't care about christmas? LOL :naughty:

You'll never understand the magic and heartache of waking up on *the* day we play the Islanders. It's something special.

Like I said, hockey has a longer schedule but throwing more and more at you is never a good thing.

Yes. You should ply more divisional games than they have been. Maybe rotate teams playing other divisions so you play more divisional games, then 2 of the other 3 divisions.

I’d rather watch rivalries games than 10pm games against teams I don’t care about.

They cant keep the canadian division due to travel so this alignment won't work but id like to play the Isles, Devils, Flyers, Pens, and Caps more than a normal season.

At most I'd be ok with a similar schedule to right after the 05 lockout. I think it was 8 games vs. division, 4 vs. same conference and 10 games vs. other conference. Of course it wouldn't work with 32 teams and I'd also prefer to play each team at least once. So perfect schedule with two conferences and four divisions 8 teams each: 6 games division rivals (42), 3 games same conference division (24) and one game other conference (16).

The schedule immediately after the lockout was my favorite. I loved playing the Flyers, Devils, etc 8 times and looked forward to each one. Beats the hell out of seeing some of these Western Conference games which tend to be sleepers as well as more later starts.

How about no?

If I want to see a team play 8 games against each of their opponents, I'd watch baseball instead.

Forced rivalries aren't real rivalries.

I wouldn't mind keeping Boston in our division though.

No way. Never been a fan of division-heavy scheduling. Can't stand it in baseball and don't want it to get any worse in hockey.

Also, I'm just a hockey fan in general and I enjoy seeing the talent from all over the league, not just the division. I'd even sacrifice some games against NJ and NYI in favor of seeing more of McDavid, MacKinnon, Pettersson, Draisaitl, etc.

NHL should go back to home whites, so fans can see jerseys from all over the league instead of just blue vs white every game

There are two problems; travel in the Canuck Divison would be very difficult over an 82 game season and sunbelt teams would scream if they didn’t get the strong drawing legacy teams in to visit at least once a year.

mixing in 'series' could help the travel issue for the western conference teams that have to cover a lot more mileage...vancouver to arizona is 1550 miles. if the canucks play 2 straight in arizona before leaving instead of 1, then you cut that travel in half without changing the number of times that you face a team. really long travel maybe even mix in a 3 game set...

of course people will always complain that the games are all lumped together and then you don't see a divisional team for months but nothing is perfect.

Yeah, I like baseball but this does irk me.

If I have plans for a Yankees vs Red Sox game, I'll say "whatever, there's 17 more."

But again, if it's United, I won't have plans. I know where they are on the schedule and I just won't.

Like I said, different sports. Baseball is a background sport until you get to the playoffs and I don't mean that as a bad thing. I love to have it on the radio while I'm in the office or on a walk.

Baseball is how I spend my summer. It's there every night for me. I enjoy the season playing out. It doesn't bother me at all that I don't see most of the American League teams.
