Should the NHL allow the arena's to have the same replays as refs and broadcasters?

After the crazy game in New Jersey last night I learned that the arena and jumbo-tron operator in NJ doesn't get access to the same video replay as the refs and broadcasters who are able to see and show multiple angles of the calls on the ice. Apparently this is the same everywhere else.

To me I don't see why they don't allow or give the teams tools to do so. There are multiple T.V time outs during the game that last thirty seconds or more where They could show the crowd the best angle of the penalty/interference/etc and have the announcer read out the the exact rules pertaining to the call/penalty.

Obviously this would only happen only for the calls that definitely nuanced and up to the Refs discretion.

Angry fans aren't going to take the time to take out their phones and search for ten minutes to find out why it was it was or was not called.

Is the reason they don't do it because it could make the refs even more stupid when they get it wrong?

Would delay game longer, I didn’t like the assumption that Murray gets to skate back to his net, when NJ had the inside line. I did think if the NJ player cut closer to the net then player, maybe different outcome.

thats why I said they would do it during the t.v time out. I can see the best angle video + explanation of the call not taking that much time

TV timeouts are two minutes long, and occur three times per period: during normal game stoppages after the 6, 10, and 14 minute marks of the period, unless there is a power play or a goal has just been scored. Each team may also take one 30 second time-out which may only be taken during a normal stoppage of play.

Yep and the 2 minutes are broken down to 3 x 30 seconds for broadcast holder advertising and 30 seconds to show replays before they come back usually.

One point that was missing in your breakdown, was also there is no TV timeout after 6,10,14 minutes besides a goal was ,if there was an icing on the play,

I don't understand why arenas don't have more replays in general. Prudential Center is bad with this - fans are paying a lot of money to attend games and miss out on a lot of the details of the game by being there versus at home.

Because it just perpetuates more anger. Although, some people are rational, many hyper angry fans filled with beer and in a pack atmosphere could care less about the truth. They don’t like any calls against their team. I’ve been at games where the replay clearly shows the ref was right but the fans still go bonkers. I just laugh. Showing it again at a TV time out will just get people that just calmed down all riled up again. I completely understand where your coming from and would appreciate that replay that confirms or denies a call but I don’t think its a good idea because i have no faith in my fellow fans.

I would hope that since it looks like the Toronto situation room seems to get all video angles that the Arena would be able to get them also.

@tarheelhockey - Toronto has access to every camera in the arena sent by IPTV, plus the blue line cameras that they only see.

It's been awhile since I've been to the PNC, but I believe we can show the broadcast feed through the Jumbotron. There was talk about having a position where we put the company's tags on the Jumbotron's feed for the fans in the arena, but I have no clue if that went anywhere. I'm of the opinion that if I'm at the game, I'm watching the ice, not the Jumbotron.
