Hart isn’t going to a defenseman, especially with how many strong seasons there are. And when Pronger won it was in part due to the Blues dominating all year. He’s in the mix for the best/most valuable players this year, but he’s not the clear best player and that tends to matter more for Hart voting than relative value. I don’t think there’s anyone who means more to his team right now though.

I'm not sold that he's separated himself from what Werenski is doing this season. Hughes is doing it in less games, but I think you have to at least put Werenski in the conversation if you want to toss in Hughes. Leon Draisaitl is absolutely crushing it as well. Hellebuyck is putting up great numbers. They're a good team but it's not like the backup is able to ride the success of the team. Hellebuyck is definitely stepping up.

We'll probably have a much clearer picture in the next 6 weeks on who may separate themselves.

Why aren’t you sold?

He is as valuable to his team as any of the others but I don’t think they make the playoffs so he won’t win it

Because Werenski has also been crushing it and taking over games for CBJ. I said I wasn't sold that he separated himself from Werenski.
Jackets are a better team than the Canucks this season though.

Marchenko is playing incredibly well and even Monahan is PPG.

Werenski has three teammates with more points than the #2 scorer on the Canucks.

Werenski is leading his team in scoring as a defenceman. That’s incredibly impressive. He has a 1 point lead over their #2 scorer.

Hughes is leading the Canucks in scoring by 21 points.

CBJ has 34 more goals scored in 2 more games played. Nucks aint helping Quinn at all this year. Near the bottom in Goals scored.

Jackets are only recently playing better team. Priori to Jan 1st, CBJ were a .500% team. Vancouver was .583.

Sean Monahan has not played since Jan 7th. CJB are 6-2-1 in those 9 games.

Werenski has a slightly higher point/60 5 on 5 than Hughes, and he's doing this with less oz starts.

Maybe Hughes is leading Werenski, I'm not going to die on a hill that say he's not, but I don't think he's done enough to really separate himself from the conversation, which is what I said. Werenski has been really good and important to that team.

Jackets have been scoring more than the nucks all year. I'm biased but I think Hughes has done plenty to separate himself from all other D this year. But that's just me.

If Hughes gets hart votes and no other D does that should be a auto Norris.

In the Nucks games I watch, it's not just points, Hughes seems to carry the team for better or worse. Not saying that's a good thing.

Without Draisaitl Oilers would still be fine with McDavid.
That's all well and good in loserville Vancouver but when it comes down to the voting it'll matter more that Draisaitl is playing like arguably the best player in the world on a Cup contender.

The definition of the Hart trophy is and has always been inaccurate. It's not who is most valuable to their team, because by that definition you have all sorts of options that are essentially impossible to filter out from. The Hart goes to the best player in the world. Is Q. Hughes really the best player in the NHL? No. He's excellent but he's not the best player in the world. That's either MacKinnon, Draisaitl, or Hellebyuck.

Hart isn't best player in the world. You need to re read what the award is. Not sure why you are being extra toxic. What has Edmonton won exactly in the McDavid era? Goofy as hell mate.

On pace to score fewer goals than Matthews did last year who didn't have the benefit of playing with the best player in the world. Matthews, also didn't win the Hart that year.
He was 6th in scoring and certainly didn’t have the Taylor Hall argument. Matthews should try these helpful things called “assists” and “playmaking” if he wants to beat Mack, Kuch and McDavid for the Hart. It’s Drai #1 and Hughes #2 atm.

Where is the Drai option?
He is the clear frontrunner right now.

He has also incredible numbers without McD in the lineup this year.

But I think Hughes has a good shot at the Norris but has to beat out Werenski first who has a better case atm. (Columbus are tied for a wildcard spot)
And the supporting cast of Columbus is not as good as Vancouvers.

Maybe if Matthews had McDavid as someone to play with on the powerplay instead of Nylander he'd put up more assists. Maybe then Matthews would produce more points, just like Draisaitl, because he wouldn't have to play the toughest matchups.

Matthews isn't even the best player on his line.
