For scoring at a lower rate than his teammate who is also better than him? Since when does the league give out participation trophies.
Drai has scored 35 goals this season. McDavid has scored 20 goals this season.

Best participation ever.

By definition of the award, he’s got as legit lan argument as anyone.

Still, there’s only been one MVP from a non playoff team in the past 70 years, so they have to get in for him to get the votes, apparently.

Why should Draisaitl get it?

Honestly, do you think McDavid getting top match ups every night doesnt make it easier for Drai? They have identical PPGs.

Not saying hes not having an insane season, but he literally has the worlds best player on the PP and parts of EV on his team.

Hughes has 25 points more than Pettersson.

Hughes wont get consideration if they dont make playoffs though.

On pace to score fewer goals than Matthews did last year who didn't have the benefit of playing with the best player in the world. Matthews, also didn't win the Hart that year.
Last year has nothing to do with the current pool.

To date, Draisaitl is the betting favourite across most websites and it’s justified. He could still catch or pass MacKinnon in outright scoring.

Draisaitl stats without McDavid are as good as with.

Here’s some more context:
Drai is now:
1st in 5v5 points , 1st in 5v5 goals,1st in 5v5 first assist
1st in goals overall, 1st in GWG
2nd in points and 2nd in PPG, both categories close to first
2nd in +/- also close to first
Top10 in Faceoffs won
Top20 in takeaways

Fun fact:
And this with his ppg almost exactly the same as his ppg without McD in the lineup over the last 7 seasons.

Betting odds change change all the time. Once McDavid catches him in points the discussion will be over again.

Those numbers are indeed impressive, till you consider that the reason he's preforming better is that McDavid is taking all the hard matchups away from him.

He's playing better than McDavid this season, period. He may not win the award in the end because there's still lots of season left, but if you think McDavid is more deserving then you haven't watched any of the games.

And to stay on topic, no Quinn Hughes will not win the Hart, playoffs or not.

It depends really how far out of the race we are, but if we make it yes imo, he's dragging this team kicking and screaming. Of all skaters to play a minimum of 500 minutes, Hughes leads the league in relative expected goals % (29.9%) by 7.2% over 2nd place - that's also the difference between 2nd and 29th (!!!)

Yes, he is the definition of the award. Absolutely everything that could go wrong with the Canucks this year has gone wrong with them. Despite that, Hughes has been absolutely unbelievable. When he's on the ice, the Canucks are on of the best teams in the league. When's he's on the bench, they're one of the worst. Unfortunately, he can't play 60 minutes a game and that's while they'll be fighting for a playoff spot down to the wire.

For me, it's down to him, Draisaitl and Hellebuyck. Have some fun with the award and don't just vote for the top three scorers.

There should be a Draisaitl option

He probably should if he gets 100 points and the canucks make the playoffs but forwards and more specifically Centres are heavily favoured by hart voters so it would still be very unlikely unfortunately
